Omaha Public Power District Senior Continuous Improvement Leader in Omaha, Nebraska


This position is responsible for providing tactical support for OPPD in the execution and sustainment of lean strategies across the organization. In this position, the employee will collaborate with organizational leadership to drive process improvements that will reduce waste and maximize cost savings.

Responsibilities include the following:

Facilitate and coach on process improvement teams focused on more effective business processes in safety, quality, delivery, customer service. This includes the elimination of non-value added or duplicate efforts, elimination of waste and related defects while capturing cost reductions, cost avoidance, and/or increasing revenue.

Manage projects using District aligned project management techniques and tools:

  • Create charters and A3s for larger continuous improvement initiatives
  • Facilitate and coach Kaizen events
  • Use lean tools and techniques (value stream mapping, Kaizen, 5S, standard work, etc.)
  • Create charters and A3s for larger continuous improvement initiatives
  • Incorporate visual management
  • Create sustainability plans

Contribute to the prioritization of initiatives based on strategic directives and senior management support:

  • Identify the type of project based on resource needs and cross-functional business unit impacts
  • Work with leadership teams on developing strategic continuous improvement action and sustainability plans for large impact initiatives
  • Develop proper KPIs to monitor success or improvement needs

Support the integration of a robust change management program at both the enterprise/cultural adoption levels as well as the project/initiative specific level:

  • Support and ensure the effectiveness of project specific change management efforts to imbed sustainable cultural adoption
  • Collaborate with Change Management Department to integrate training, standardized methodologies, communications support, and other areas important for a continuous improvement culture
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and waste elimination across the organization

Foster a culture of continuous improvement through training and implementation of various processes, tools, and methods:

  • Train employees on how to generate ideas and solve problems as part of their current duties and responsibilities
  • Combine technical knowledge, organization skills, and people skills to deliver operational improvements within a desired timeframe


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics or business related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of process improvement implementation and facilitation
  • Experience in applying various business process improvement methodologies including Lean, Lean Six Sigma, change management, and systems thinking
  • Demonstrate experience with ensuring effective change management development and execution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, organizational, and analytical skills


  • Electric Utility Experience
  • Project Management knowledge and acumen
  • Green/Black Belt certification in Lean or Six Sigma or equivalent quality certification
  • Ability to certify employees in lean methodologies
