Omaha Public Power District Machinist Helper - (North Omaha Station) in Omaha, Nebraska

Summary:

OPPD is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Machinist Helper. The Machinist Helper will work closely with experienced machinists to support the maintenance and repair of equipment crucial to our operations. This entry-level position offers an opportunity for career growth and development within the organization.

The machinist helper performs duties, which assist machinists in the maintenance, and operations of various equipment in the power stations and support machine shop activities as required producing or repairing precision parts.

Responsibilities:

  1. Under direction, supports the machinists with day-to-day activities that are required for power plant operation by:

    ¿ Assist in the operation of all shop machine tools including lathes, milling machines, hydraulic presses, and grinders.

    ¿ Assist with installation, inspection, and repair of power plant equipment including equipment in the field.

    ¿ Perform tasks related to the use and handling of hazardous material.

    Qualifications

    Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required

  • Requires a high degree of mechanical ability, related machine shop experience.

  • Knowledge of safety, mathematics and mechanics are also needed qualities.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Must have good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be available for overtime work as required.

  • Must demonstrate cardio-pulmonary and physical fitness required for utilization of respiratory protection equipment.

    Desired:

  • Completion of an industrial education program or equivalent training desirable.
