Omaha Public Power District Grid Operational Technology Engineer (Server Admin) in Omaha, Nebraska

OPPD’s Operational Technology Division is looking for a Grid Operational Technology (Grid OT) Engineer who is technically versatile and possesses critical thinking abilities to assist with Grid OT’s server infrastructure. We are seeking someone to join a team of hungry, hardworking, goal-orientated individuals.

Department Overview:

The mission of Grid Operational Technology (Grid OT) within the Enterprise Operational Technology division is to provide design, execution, maintenance, and NERC CIP compliance for Operational Technology related to transmission and distribution of electricity throughout OPPD’s footprint. The environments directly supported by Grid OT are the Energy Management System, the Outage Management System, the Physical Access Control System, and the substation OT network.

Position Summary:

The following position within Grid OT shall be primarily responsible for the installation, maintenance, and configuration of Windows and Linux servers and Windows workstations on the Grid OT domains. The Grid OT Engineer shall provide design and full life cycle management of the servers, workstations, and applications running in the Grid OT environment. Within the role, the candidate will be expected to participate in strategic planning and engineering analysis of the Grid OT server environment, collaborate with project managers and partners within other departments for their support in completing critical work and have comprehension of NERC CIP regulatory compliance. Candidate must have experience in server and workstation administration, configuration, and maintenance. This position provides technical support and implementations and ensures optimal performance for critical customers for the Grid OT group.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Four (4) years of proven relevant work experience, preferably supporting ICS/SCADA systems or OT networks; or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical or engineering discipline and two (2) years of relevant work experience. Special projects, committee work, intern work or unique technical sills may be considered for experience requirements

  • A fundamental knowledge of system administration, networking, and/or virtualization principles, particularly with Windows, Linux/Unix, and Cisco

  • Proficient knowledge in one or more of the following OT tracks: network infrastructure, SCADA/DCS HMI systems, data/communication systems, management systems, and security/compliance

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate with all levels

  • Excellent customer service and ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with moderate supervision. Requires exceptional organizational skills, problem solving skills, and flexibility in changing priorities.

    Desired:

  • NERC CIP compliance experience

  • Experience, education or certification in relevant software applications, networking, or ICS cyber security (e.g. SANS, ISACA, CompTIA, etc.) such as CISSP certification

  • Fundamental knowledge of NIST standards and other security frameworks

  • Fundamental knowledge of electric utility energy production and energy delivery systems

    Salary Grade: S4

    Minimum: $83,870

    Maximum: $125,804
