Sr Combustion Systems Engineer
Develops plans and specifications, performs analysis, and provides reports on assigned tasks involving operation and maintenance of existing facilities. Supports and advises Power Supply regarding plant performance activities with a focus on combustion systems. Primarily monitors operation of coal fired boiler systems; pulverizers, burners, ash systems, etc.). Responsible for recommendations to plant management concerning operation, testing of boilers, and auxiliary equipment. Provides support for gas fired boiler systems as the need arises. Provides consultation and technical direction on fuel handling and boiler related projects and activities in Power Supply. May be required to perform design work and/or detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
Responsible to promote a safety culture by modeling behaviors consistent with IIF (Incident and Injury Free).
Maintains Mechanical Integrity maintenance programs for combustion and boiler performance, and other related combustion equipment.
Advises routine monitoring of coal fired boiler systems operation, primarily focusing on system combustion to include monitoring and tuning all assets required to prepare and control a pulverized coal fuel system.
Monitor performance and maintenance of ash handling systems and provide technical guidance for both bottom ash and fly ash system performance.
Provide support and direction to Power Supply operations and maintenance departments regarding pulverizer, burner, and ash handling system control and maintenance.
Interface with plant engineering and operations staff to educate and train OGE members in system operation and control.
Coordinates planning, budgeting, design and construction for combustion system related projects including coordination with section team members, other OG&E departments, outside construction companies, and architectural engineering firms.
Provides similar support for gas fired boiler systems, as needed.
Performs calculations required to select, apply and assure proper utilization and maintenance of equipment necessary for power plants, including: pumps compressors, fans, blowers, turbines and other related equipment.
Prepares/reviews contractor Scope of Work regarding testing and maintenance of plant equipment and materials.
Performs job-in-process inspections to assure maintenance projects are properly conducted per Scope of Work.
Provides on-the-job training to new staff.
Manages multiple projects and associated budgets, schedules and resources.
Functions as quality inspector or defines quality requirements on engineering designs and projects.
Assures that all design specifications conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations.
Reviews and critiques proposed changes to engineering standards, policies and guidelines.
Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices.
Conducts surveys to gather field data.
Prepare and interpret schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids.
Prepares engineering analysis for small/routine projects to include: preliminary design, calculation, life cycle cost and equipment selection.
Assists upper level engineers as directed while developing specialized engineering skills.
Supports company safety programs and initiatives by following all EHS and Operating procedures and adhering to established design standards.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or PE.
Five (5) years directly related experience as an Engineer.
Experience to include one or more of the following: CE T-fired boiler combustion, Power Test Code boiler efficiency testing, pulverizer performance and maintenance, and/or soot blower performance and maintenance practices.
Valid State Driver's license.
Demonstrated ability to model behavior consistent with an IIF (Incident and Injury Free) culture.
Experience as OEM, 3rd party or Utility combustion, process, or performance engineering, and pulverizer performance and maintenance to include CE bowl mills or B&W Roll Wheels.
Knowledge of DCS functions as it related to changing damper or actuator curves including adjustment of primary/secondary air flow curves via “K Factors.”
Knowledge of electrostatic precipitator performance and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of fly ash and bottom ash system operation and troubleshooting.
Experience with CE T-fired boiler combustion including: isokinetic mill fineness, HVT traverse, primary/secondary air traverse, air heater testing).
Experience with soot blower performance and maintenance practices, furnace laser grids, and water cannons/hydrojets.
Knowledge of combustion and soot blowing optimizers i.e. NeuCo.
Operational knowledge of electrostatic precipitators.
Familiar with Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis.
Ability to learn by reading and interpreting written technical material.
Knowledge of plant processes.
Ability to perform basic project economic analysis for budget justification.
Ability to read equipment drawings and interpret process P&IDs / Print reading
Strong Computer skills including MS Office Suite and company enterprise programs SAP PM (Plant Maintenance).
