About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

This Manager position is responsible the safe and successful completion of capital projects in the Transmission Portfolio and/or Distribution projects with regards to scope, schedule and cost. This position oversees the project management function and manages both internal and external project management professionals., and reports to the either the Director, Project Management or the General Manager of Project Management depending on specific position selected.

This position can be located in Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey.

Responsibilities include:

  • Fostering a high performing safety culture through personal conduct, leading by example, and utilization of human performance principles.

  • Performing site Safety Observations, including paired observations, to ensure adherence to safe work standards/procedures. Reviewing observations conducted to identify positive trends and opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensuring proper use of the contractor incident notification process.

  • Overseeing staff to ensure that in-service and spend forecasts are reliable and accurate.

  • Ensuring proper and timely use of the FET Issues Database to capture job site efficiency opportunities. Ensuring recurring issues are identified and resolved.

  • Leading the team in adhering to the FET Project Lifecycle Management Process (PLMP).

  • Participating in various reviews on projects progress, positive accomplishments, and challenges.

  • Periodically reviewing the various metrics used within Project Management and taking action as necessary to address issues or provide positive reinforcement.

  • Supporting storm restoration activities when necessary. Ensuring staff has an assigned primary/backup role and ensuring associated training is up to date.

  • Ensuring compliance to as-built/red-line drawings submittal and key project closeout activities. Including, pre-energization and post energization checklists supporting the substation and transmission line energization and inspection processes.

  • Ensuring the organization is engaged with Construction and Supply Chain to ensure bid packages are embedded with the necessary safety and quality expectations.

  • Ensuring adherence to Task Planning and lean construction methodologies.

  • Periodically participating in contractor performance evaluations, project review, and closeout/ lessons learned meetings.

  • Supporting development and implementation of the departments Business Plan and other continuous improvement initiatives as required.

  • Continually monitoring the human resource requirements of assigned projects within service territory and providing necessary level of staffing to maintain job site continuity and integrity of build.

  • Providing coaching and development to direct reports through the FE Performance Management process. Listening to feedback from employees on improvement opportunities and take action accordingly.

  • Creating and leading an organizational culture that thrives on safety, integrity, open and honest communication, continuous improvement, collaboration, and values the contributions of all employees.

  • Other items as deemed necessary by the Director, Project Management to support the needs of FE Construction & Design Services.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business with 7 years of relevant experience. In lieu of Bachelors' degree, candidates with 10 years of relevant experience will be considered. PE License and previous Leadership, Substation, or Line construction experience are preferred (or other relevant industrial/ commercial construction experience).

  • Relevant experience includes extensive knowledge of project and construction management concepts and processes.

  • Must embrace a safety culture and maintain a safe work environment for co-workers and the public.

  • Excellent computer skills, interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical ability are required.

  • Demonstrate the Leadership skills to effectively lead change management processes from concept to completion.

  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic leader who functions well independently and can communicate, motivate, and drive positive workforce changes to achieve the intended process improvements.

  • Ability to expedite responsible decisions based on leading with safety principles and conservative decision- making processes that demonstrate sound judgment and are in alignment with FE's Power of Integrity & Core Values and Behaviors.
