This is a position in Energy Delivery - Fleet Services and can be based anywhere within the FirstEnergy Service territory.

JOB SUMMARY :

The Manager of Fleet Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic management of the fleet organization. This role ensures the efficient, cost-effective, and safe operation of the organization’s vehicle fleet, including maintenance, repairs, procurement, and disposal of vehicles. Develops and implements policies and procedures to enhance service quality, reduce downtime, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Involved in budget management, vendor negotiations, and leading a team to meet operational goals and customer service expectations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure all fleet operations comply with company policies, safety standards, and government regulations. Implement safety programs and ensure regular inspections.

  • Develop long-term strategies to meet the transition to an electrified fleet, including appropriate infrastructure to support as well as the optimization of the current and future fleet.

  • Drive efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the fleet, including adopting alternative fuel vehicles and implementing eco-friendly practices.

  • Coordinate fleet activities during emergencies, ensuring that vehicles are available and operational to support utility operations

  • Develop and manage the fleet budget, including cost forecasting, monitoring expenses, and implementing cost-saving measures

  • Negotiate contracts and service agreements to ensure cost-effective and reliable support for the fleet. Ensure strong relationships with key partners.

  • Evaluate complex equipment bids, establishing lease budgets for region operations to align with vehicle replacements.

  • Monitor the administration of various lease agreements and ensuring lease invoices are properly processed.

  • Periodically auditing of lease payments and compiling data for annual reporting.

  • Utilize fleet management software to track vehicle usage, maintenance schedules, fuel consumption, and other key metrics. Analyze data to optimize fleet performance.

  • Develop a 5+ year vehicle replacement plan based on analytics obtained through the vehicle maintenance system as well as industry best practices.

  • Develop and manage a preventive maintenance program to ensure all vehicles and equipment are in optimal working condition.

  • Efficiently and independently manage time, priorities, and updating management on work in progress, backlog of work, section productivity and any other applicable status updates.

  • Prepare specifications for procurement of utility vehicles and processing vehicles for disposal with regional fleet groups, Investment Recovery, and appropriate leasing companies.

  • Foster a positive and productive work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements, implementing new tools and systems to enhance fleet operations.

  • Provide assistance and technical support on fleet related issues by means of licensing, permitting, and maintaining M5 and regulation compliance.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to vehicle safety, emissions, and operator certifications.

  • Create vehicle and equipment specifications and establishing fleet policies and procedures for all fleet operations.

  • Provide support for M5/Fleet System by answering questions, troubleshooting issues, monitoring batch processing, and facilitating training as needed.

  • Implement M5/Fleet System upgrades, working with IT to review modifications, test changes, resolve issues, and coordinate the schedule for implementation.

  • Maintain M5/Fleet System security by maintaining documentation of security changes, obtaining proper authorization for security changes, and performing biannual audits and security maintenance.

  • Interface with M5/Fleet System vendor, tracking reported problems for test fixes. Presenting issues and questions to vendor and presenting notifications to regional users.

  • Coordinate Monthly Fleet Manager Meetings.

  • Determine FE Transportation Rates and adjusting as required.

Qualifications Include :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation Management, or related field is strongly preferred. Equivalent training and related work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in fleet management or related work experience, including experience in managing large fleets. Prior experience in a leadership role is preferred.

  • Related work experience includes fleet operations, logistics, and maintenance program management.

  • Experience in the utility industry or a related sector is preferred.

  • Must possess leadership qualities that allow one to provide effective guidance to others, coach others in effective decision-making and facilitate meetings.

  • Must have proficiency and independence with fleet systems, with specific training in hydraulic power systems.

  • Skill in the development, collection, organization, and analysis of information from a variety of sources to develop reports.

  • Must possess superior communication and analytical skills to enable effective work with fleet and management personnel, along with interfacing and working cooperatively with customers, contractors and the general public, in a professional and courteous manner. Must have strong relationships at all levels.

  • Must have full proficiency with PC software applications including Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) and M5, along with knowledge of SAP, CREWS, P-Card and FieldNet.

  • Ability to understand and apply knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley compliance requirements.

  • Must understand the company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and apply this to safety in the workplace.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment, to manage, organize and prioritize work and meet strict deadlines.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities, provide both internal and external quality customer service and demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to operate in a team or consensus decision-making environment, possessing the ability to make quick assessment and deliver well-thought decisions when situations arise that require independent judgment.

  • Must possess leadership qualities that allow one to provide effective guidance to others, coach others in effective decision-making and facilitate meetings.
