Oglethorpe Power Senior Electrical Engineer in Oglethorpe Power Headquarters, United States

The Electrical Engineer will oversee Electrical Testing and Predictive/Preventive Maintenance Programs at plants owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power.

Job Duties:

  • The incumbent will be responsible for planning such efforts as major generator outages at Oglethorpe Plants and the design, selection, and implementation of new control systems at Oglethorpe Plants.

  • The incumbent will help in planning, review, and monitoring annual electrical inspections as well as write annual reports at facilities owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power.

  • The incumbent will provide technical support for plant managers and other personnel as needed, including the design of new plant systems or modifications to existing plant systems, planning, budgeting, and performance analysis for facilities owned/operated or contracted to operate by Oglethorpe Power.

  • The incumbent will help in the procedure writing of plant procedures to enable compliance with NERC/SERC standards.

  • As a member of Technical Services, the incumbent will also provide services, such as the review of drawings, specifications, design memoranda, etc., to generation projects in development or under construction.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education : Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology (preferably BSEE) - Technical and business knowledge of generating plant operation, performance and economics.

    Experience : We are seeking an Experienced or Senior Engineer level candidate. 5 years minimum engineering and three to five years minimum experience in an operating commercial electric power generating or manufacturing plant is required.

    Specialized Skills :

  • Ability to organize and manage time well and to work with autonomy

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities

  • PC fluency

  • General Electrical Engineering knowledge as well as a high technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: Generator Maintenance, Relay Testing, Excitation Maintenance and Design, Switchgear Maintenance and Design, Electrical System modeling including load flows or arc flash, transformer maintenance and design, Protective relay testing, High voltage testing and maintenance, and Project management.

  • Ability to work directly with Plant Manager and executive-level staff.

    Licenses, Registrations, and/or Certifications : A valid driver's license that meets the insurance requirements under Oglethorpe Power's Drivers Qualification Program.

    Travel : 40% Primarily local day trips to the generating facilities though some overnight travel is occasionally required

    Unusual Hours: The generating plants operate on a 24‑hour basis. At his or her discretion, the incumbent may elect to remain on‑site during forced outages, maintenance outages, or other significant events, and to attend plant meetings that occur outside normal office hours. The incumbent is on call in the event of incidents that affect the operation, rating, or reliability of the corporation's generating assets.
