This position is to assist and interface in the overall land acquisitions, planning and activities for Liberty Power Company’s (LPCo) major renewable projects for all land tenure and security on all needed land, including initial public and community relations. The role also requires strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with various partners and ability to travel between 50%-85% of their time. The role will be active in all aspects of origination, development, and construction. During the project development cycle and the land acquisition, the Land Development Specialist will remain involved as an agent for Algonquin. The Land Development Specialist is accountable for the prioritization and deployment of tasks and resources against approved projects with a clear view to land and partner success. The Land Development Specialist will prioritize, initiate, evaluate and complete all significant steps, in partnership with the Manager, Land and Partner as well as the Director to ensure overall business development goals are met.


Meeting Landowners/Stake owners

  • On certain assigned projects, provide primary leadership on securing the needed land packages for the project, using both internal and external resources.

  • Collaborate with the permitting and planning team to lead, investigate and recommend new land agents in the new development jurisdictions for LPCo

  • Recommendations for execution and improvements as well as, management of community building events with local partners and landowners.

  • On certain assigned projects, lead the retaining and running land agents to act in the same capacity when work-load demands or logistics require 3rd party services,

  • Meet and /or communicate with existing landowners and partners to maintain/establish relationships with Liberty Power. This includes detailing all landowner interactions and commitments to ensure a supported transition into construction and operations.

  • Build initiatives to demonstrate to communities that “We Care” – “Care” and education regarding benefits of renewable projects

  • Lead and Utilize reputable PR (Public Relations) firm per renewable project, as applicable

Project Management

  • Paralegal expertise in drafting and crafting contracts for the land and permitting team

  • Lead management and subject matter expert of 3rd party IT consultant in the current and any future needed program modifications, upgrades and implementation of LPM (Land works Property Management)


  • In partnership with permitting and planning team lead the land zoning security for new development packages; research applicable regulations, prepare re-zoning applications. meeting AHJ's (municipal staff, elected council officials) and defend and expedite applications

Other Requirements

  • Any similar and /or related duties as requested from time to time

  • Upon assignment, lead due diligence tasks associated with property and land agreements

Education & Experience

  • College or professional program of 3 years or less

  • 3-5 years of experience
