Reporting to the Senior Director – Energy Services, this role (Director – Market Analytics) will lead a team focused on building a data analytics and business intelligence strategy and executing the strategy to provide analytics, insights and predictive analytics to the leadership team, with a focus on growth and operational efficiencies. Through the analysis and insights, this leader will make recommendations for improvements to reduce exposure (costs), improve information flow between departments and improve revenues.

The Market Analytics group within Energy Services forms the back bone of providing quality data driven analytics to inform strategic trading decisions in the management of the renewable portfolio. The role will involve close collaboration with multiple stakeholder groups including: the trading team within Energy Services, the IT team, the renewable Operations department, the Business Development department, Middle Office, Finance & Accounting as well as interaction with the corporate executive team.

The Director will be a detail-oriented and data-driven leader with strategic insight, strong business acumen and progressive thought process that boasts a successful track record of building relationships & leading complex projects. This leader has to enjoy getting into the weeds and getting stuff done. They must also possess the ability to properly and efficiently articulate a message and preserve the organization’s core values while maintaining accountability and integrity. Furthermore, this role will be charged with measuring success by gathering data and reporting on key performance indicators that valuate project results and trading strategies in the form of risk reduction, revenue generation and improved efficiencies in communication, measurement, and reporting.

This position is responsible for leading the Market Analytics team within Energy Services to build a data environment, obtain data and draw insights from the data.

Accountabilities

  • Partner with operations leaders and functional leaders to define the company’s multi-year data analytics strategy and execution roadmap to drive operational efficiencies and develop data-based trade strategies that reduce risk and increase revenue.

  • Lead a team to collaborate with internal stakeholders (with the priority of the trade team within Energy Services) to identify needs and define requirements; prioritize requests; and to develop, test and implement data analytics and predictive modeling. Build partnerships with other departments.

  • Responsible for identifying critical analysis required in conjunction with business partners to perform analysis to drive objectives. Prioritization of ideas will be critical. This will involve understanding all areas of the business and a critical eye to ensure the data and methodology employed is correct.

  • Responsible for providing senior management team written and oral presentations with necessary information and supporting analysis to make appropriate business decisions.

  • Share knowledge, approaches and expertise across departments within the Liberty renewables umbrella.

  • Maintain and improve critical database (Snowflake) infrastructure and data.

  • Maintain and enhance critical BI reporting dashboards.

  • Introduce new analytical methods to the company including machine learning and predictive modeling. Build and implement new models and tools for the energy services team and other stakeholder groups that share/rely on database data. As with anything that is new, this will require change management skills.

  • Maintain existing Energy Services software solutions and introduce new software with the goal of improving efficiency, reducing risk (cost) and improving revenue. Act as the SME (System Management Expert) on any new critical software implementations for the Energy Services team.

  • Measure success with improved reporting on all key performance indicators.

  • Develop, mentor, and lead staff to foster an environment of teamwork and accountability. Drive an engaged and collaborative culture, and a culture of getting things done and obtaining exceptional results where team members love to work.

  • Support and lead staff in the implementation of new tools, methods and software.

  • Develop a 5-year resource road map for the Market Analytics team in conjunction with the Senior Director of Energy Services taking into account the growth of the ES department and overall growth of Liberty Renewable Business. Be pro-active with hiring filling immediate needs but also planning for future needs.

  • Build and develop a network of New Grads and Co-Op students to build a pipeline of experienced candidates for future permanent roles of analysts and traders.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar field.

  • 10-15 years of experience in designing, deploying and maintaining data analytics and infrastructures. With a minimum of 10 years of experience in power markets.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in or with a power trading group.

  • Expertise in enterprise data warehouse, big data, BI & advanced analytics infrastructures.

  • Proven hands-on experience in leading organization wide analytical projects.

  • Strong knowledge of Python, R, SQL, VBA.

  • DAX scripting experience would be nice to have

  • Strong knowledge of the platforms available including Azure, AWS, Power BI, etc.

  • Excellent presentation skills with proven ability to communicate complex technical information in a way that is easily understood by others at senior leadership levels.
