The Information Technology (IT) organization designs, develops, operates and maintains the technology and telecommunications systems that enable PG&E to meet its commitment to providing safe, reliable and affordable service to customers.
IT partners with the business by increasing capabilities through the development of additional functionality, implementing new technologies, reducing costs, increasing productivity, and facilitating organizational and business effectiveness through enabling technologies.
Position Summary
The Director, SAP Development is a key leadership role leading all development for PG&E’s Propel program, a major business and technology modernization program to unlock customer value by simplifying the way we work together. Propel will migrate PG&E to the new version of SAP, S/4HANA, seizing this unique opportunity for PG&E to standardize business processes, clean the technology core, and enable innovation for breakthrough change across Engineering, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Information Technology.
The Director, SAP Development will report directly to the Senior Director, Development & Operations and be responsible for overseeing all technical workstreams for Propel – the transformation program at PG&E that defines, delivers, and supports business solutions enabled by SAP S/4HANA ERP and adjacent platforms. This role will have technical delivery leadership responsibility for Enterprise Design and four releases (2025-2030) for PG&E’s current ERP transformation program shifting from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA.
Scope of business processes include Design to Operate (DTO), Source to Pay (STP), Inventory to Deliver (ITD), Forecast to Plan (FTP), Record to Report (RTR) and Hire to Retire (HTR). Solutions include: SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, SuccessFactors, Ariba, Fieldglass, EPPM, SAC, BOBJ/BW, BTP and hundreds of non-SAP applications.
This role will lead SAP application development, set up and govern clean core development standards, automate testing and DevOps methodology. This role requires strong leadership, stakeholder management, and technical expertise to ensure seamless integration across a diverse application landscape.
The ideal candidate should have long history of delivering SAP projects leading development workstreams and directly managing development team members.
This position will be based at PG&E headquarters in Oakland, California. The candidate must have willingness to commute into the Oakland, California office at least 3 days a week; relocation assistance offered.
Key Skills, Experience and Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation, execution, and transition of ECC to S/4 with the goal of moving to a clean core.
Lead all RICEFW development, design scalable architectures, and build clean, maintainable solutions.
Ensure optimal integration of SAP with other enterprise systems and technologies.
Manage and execute the transition to a clean core using ABAP cloud and the Business Technology Platform (BTP).
Develop and maintain development standards and establish KPIs to measure design and code quality and track post-implementation performance.
Document and manage SOPs for software and information platform systems.
Monitor project progress, manage resources, and ensure alignment with quality standards.
Build and lead offshore teams of developers and technologists.
Collaborate cross-functionally with BASIS, infrastructure, architecture, and functional leaders to achieve results.
Elevate team members' skills and knowledge of SAP's latest technologies and trends using various forums like training sessions, code jams, and hackathons.

Background Qualifications
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
10+ years of hands-on experience as a technologist and expert in SAP development languages and platforms (SAP ABAP, BTP application development).
At least 2 full lifecycle ERP transformation programs enabled by SAP S4/HANA
Broad technical architecture knowledge SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, BTP and SAP cloud solutions
Experience in governing development across multiple projects simultaneously to ensure adherence to development standards.
Preferred
Experience leading offshore teams of developers.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
S/4 migration and implementation experience from a single instance using bluefield and greenfield approaches.
Applied experience in SAP Activate Methodology and/or similar methodologies used by system integrators
Delivered large complex SAP programs as delivery lead from big 4 consulting firm
Experience in working in global setting where global design was established and realized
Compensation
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $186,000
Bay Area Maximum: $316,000
Director and Senior Director level roles are also eligible to participate in short and long term incentive programs (STIP and LTIP)
