PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position has overall responsibility for the financial and business operations and execution of projects within the Smart Grid & Technology organization. Leads a team of analysts, engineers, consultants and project managers that manage high profile projects with broad internal (Legal, Regulatory, Finance and Operations) stakeholders and externally facing partners including the U.S Department of Energy (DOE), Educational Institutions and National Laboratories. Coordinates the development of community benefits plans for grant proposals and supports innovative program designs for social and environmental performance.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop, own and maintain business cases and models for current and future initiatives. Obtain buy-in and support from internal stakeholder groups including but not limited to regulatory, finance and operations.

  • Plan, manage, and convene meetings with external stakeholders to support the development of collaborative and innovative projects and to identify new opportunities for ComEd to meet customer needs.

  • Research, propose, benchmark, deploy, and document metrics that evaluate the social and environmental benefits of ComEd programs and investments.

  • Leverage internal and external expertise to identify and overcome roadblocks to an equitable energy transition.

  • Hire, manage, and coach diverse talent to sustain team performance with complex internal and external accountability.

  • Lead and manage high profile cross-organizational projects including DOE or other grant awards. Will have responsibility for managing the contractual relationships established with the various project partners and the DOE and the on-time delivery of project outcomes.

  • Manage the process of developing and updating short term (annual budget) and long-term financial plans (LRP) for the department. Provide periodic updates as needed to Finance, Investment Strategy and other stakeholders.

  • Prepare periodic and as needed status reports on the projects and initiatives being executed by Smart Grid and Technology.

  • Responsible for monthly handling day-to-day issues regarding the budget and finances for the department.

  • Participate in industry leading activities including writing articles and participating in working groups or task forces.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in social science, humanities, or interdisciplinary field and 7-10 years related professional experience.

  • In lieu of degree, 9-12 years of relevant experience.

  • Working knowledge of global climate change, public health, and/or clean energy topics relevant to leading initiatives related to an equitable energy transition.

  • Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project), specialized business technologies and applications and ability to retrieve and analyze data in support of business needs.

  • Demonstrated ability in leading cross functional or cross-organizational project teams.

  • Ability to analyze demographic, social, economic, and organizational data and complex problems, interpret and recommend alternative courses of action, and implement intervention strategies to attain performance targets.

  • Ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.

  • Demonstrated advanced skills in problem solving, negotiation, conflict management and business acumen to foster relationships with partners.

  • Customer driven with good oral and written communications skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD, research master's degree, MBA, or STEM degree.

  • Experience convening community stakeholders to deliberate on issues of shared concern and managing relationships in a community context to identify and support shared goals.

  • Experience in community organizing or action research.

  • Experience with urban planning, energy efficiency, renewable generation, and distribution utility operations.

  • Experience leading or managing DOE funded projects.

  • Experience in program evaluation.

  • Experience in social sector leadership (e.g. executive director or program manager).?

  • Experience with triple bottom line (full cost) accounting, social impact management, and related developments in management practice.?
