Engineer (All Levels)
Location: MI - Novi
Provides engineering support to ensure the functionality, availability and accuracy of the Energy Management System (EMS) – System Operations Advanced Applications used for studying, monitoring, analyzing and operating the high voltage electric transmission power grid in both the off-line and real-time environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains and supports the functionality of the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) by developing the required power system models for Energy Management System (EMS), Automatic Generation Control (AGC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) in order to provide a realistic simulation of the power system.
Develops and builds power system scenarios in the OTS environment that enables the System Operations Department to provide individual and team simulator training.
Assists Operations Training by providing OTS applications engineering support during black start restoration drills and exercises.
Works with IT/SCADA engineering department to support the processes required to update and maintain system operations applications data.
Integrates SCADA measurements with power system model computer data files required to support system operations tools for operational planning and real-time operations.
Supports development and maintenance of detailed network transmission models and external system models and equivalents.
Formulates recommendations for operations application software/process enhancements and improvements.
Resolves functional Dispatcher's Load Flow (DLF), State Estimator (SE), Contingency Analysis (CA), Operator Training Simulator (OTS) power system modeling and database problems.
Maintains, supports and enhances the availability and accuracy of system operations applications with respect to industry related operational best practices.
Coordinates with interconnected entities and reliability authorities on system operating issues and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Standards compliance requirements.
Participates in committees and working groups at Regional Reliability Organizations, Regional Transmission Operators, NERC and other electric utility industry and stakeholder forums for the purpose of professional development and implementing, where applicable, best practices being utilized in the industry.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Power system coursework preferred.
Associate level - entry level, Engineer - two (2) years of related experience, Senior Engineer - five (5) years of related experience.
For Engineer and Senior Engineer two (2) - five (5) years of experience in any one or combination of the following is preferred: Energy Management Systems (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and power system advanced analysis and monitoring applications, or; Planning, design, or real-time operation of electric utility transmission systems.
Working knowledge of the following EMS Advanced Applications tools are preferred: Operator Training Simulator (OTS), State Estimator (SE), Contingency Analysis (CA) and Dispatcher Load Flow (DLF).
Possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Possess sound analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
Ability to work under minimal supervision, in a team environment.
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
