We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary
The Gas Technologist position will be located in our Charleston Operations Center, in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Responsibilities include:
Plans, coordinates, and designs the installation and repair of gas distribution mains and service lines assigned to employees and outside contractors with the objective of assuring that installations and repairs conform to Company standards and schedules;
Interprets blueprints and drawings of work performance to determine that work is conforming to company standards and plans and complies with DOT requirements;
Prepares detailed field drawings of all facilities installed, abandoned, or repaired, as required;
Prepares complete and accurate records and reports of inspection activities and results; draws construction sketches detailing location of pipe, valves, and fittings with respect to permanent structures, property lines, and cover of pipe to natural ground;
Assures permits are approved prior to construction;
Coordinates construction activities with landowners, builders, developers, State DOT, and other regulatory agencies to assure quality and timeliness of project;
Performs technical computations and load studies; makes technical drawings and reports;
Previews jobs and provides estimates for jobbing work;
Measures and collects field information, through field measurement, tax maps at courthouses, and scaling from drawings;
Plans and executes details of work orders;
Creates encroachment permits;
Assists engineer, sales and other gas technologists as directed;
Understands and abides by all safety regulations;
Available for emergency response, as needed;
Ensures that all aspects of the job are performed in a safe manner that fulfills all requirements of OSHA.
The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below.
- Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The successful candidate should be knowledgeable of all regulatory requirements, corporate design standards, and operations & maintenance procedures to ensure safety and compliance; intermediate PC skills to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Geographic Information System (GIS) knowledge preferred; frequently drives vehicle for company business so must have a valid drivers’ license with a good driving history. Working conditions include: frequently bends, squats, kneels, stands, walks, Is frequently exposed to changes in temperature and/or humidity, works around electrical equipment and is exposed to machinery.
Gas Technologist I:
Perform routine technical work;
Plan and carry out details of minor technical projects such as service line relocates, service line replacements, small and medium size plastic main extensions, minor system improvements, etc.;
Assist engineers on assigned projects;
Perform assignments requiring a basic knowledge of engineering fundamental;
Basic PC skills, including basic Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Gas Technologist II:
In addition to the basic skills, abilities, and type of work listed for Gas Technologist I, must also possess skills and abilities to perform more complex work, including but not limited to:
Perform technical computations and studies;
Make technical drawings and reports;
Design and manage projects including service line relocates, service line replacements, plastic main extensions of all sizes, high pressure steel distribution projects, system improvements, Measurement & Regulation (M&R) related projects, SCDOT relocations, etc.;
PC Skills should include strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and business applications such as Powerplant, Projects Database, etc.
Gas Technologist III:
In addition to the skills, abilities, and type of work listed for Gas Technologist II, must also possess skills and abilities to perform more advanced work, including but not limited to:
Perform technical computations and studies, utilize hydraulic modeling software, utilize field data collection software, etc.;
Make complex technical drawings and reports, including bore paths;
Design projects including plastic main extensions of all sizes, complex high pressure steel distribution projects, major system improvements, M&R related projects, complex SCDOT conflicts, transmission design, etc.;
Schedule, coordinate, and supervise assigned field projects or contractors;
PC Skills should include thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and business applications such as Powerplant, Projects Database, Synergi, etc.
Education Requirements
Gas Technologist I:
High School diploma accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U. S. Dept. of Education (or GED) and 4 years of related technical experience, OR
Associates degree or other special certification/degree with at least 0 to 2 years of related technical experience (depending on the type of degree held).
An Associates degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering would be preferred but is not required
Gas Technologist II:
High School diploma accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U. S. Dept. of Education (or GED) and 8 years of related technical experience, OR
Associates degree or other special certification/degree with at least 4 to 6 years of related technical experience (depending on the type of degree held).
An Associates degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering would be preferred but is not required.
Gas Technologist III:
High School diploma accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or one of the entities recognized by the U. S. Dept. of Education (or GED) and 12 years of related technical experience, OR
Associates degree or other special certification/degree with at least 8 to 10 years of related technical experience (depending on the type of degree held).
An Associates degree in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering would be preferred but is not required.
