New York Power Authority Journeyman Mechanic (Mason Specialty) in Niagara, New York
The successful candidate will perform preventative and corrective maintenance duties within the Niagara Project's General Maintenance Department. The candidate will specialize in various masonry tasks as assigned utilizing the skills associated with a journeyperson certification. All assignments must be completed efficiently, safely and with great attention to detail. Tasks include but are not limited to the following.
Repairs, maintains and alters buildings, retaining walls and other brick or stone edifices.
Mixes mortar; lays bricks and stones and/or concrete sidewalks; makes and repairs steps.
Patches and/or replaces granite stair treads.
Installs and repairs quarry, clay, ceramic, and tile floors and/or walls.
Estimates quantities for masonry jobs.
Does carpentry work incidental to masonry work; i.e. assemble forms for concrete
Screed, float, and level any new concrete surfaces.
Operate related equipment, diamond impregnated saws both walk behind and cut-off saws, core cutting
The position will require the ability to perform a variety of other maintenance tasks as assigned in addition to masonry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Successful candidate must be capable of performing all aspects of masonry and other general/mechanical maintenance; both preventative and corrective. Skills must include proficiency in installation, repair and maintenance of masonry tasks. Candidate should be skilled in performing maintenance duties within an industrial setting possessing familiarity with applicable safety concepts and standards, Must be familiar with the mechanics of concrete as well as operating equipment related to concrete.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Requires 7 years of experience as a journeyperson mason. Must have journeyperson certification . Experience should include carpentry work incidental to masonry work; i.e. assemble forms for concrete.
