Testing Required:

On-Site Role: Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Fermi is looking for qualified candidates for positions within Radiation Protection, including Supervisor, Technical Specialist, and Radioactive/Hazardous Material Shipping Specialist. Supervisor – RP Field Ops

Job Summary: Responsible for direct supervision of employees to ensure the Nuclear Generation Program Chemistry, Environmental Health, Radiation Protection, or Radwaste is implemented in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, and supports company and business unit strategic objectives.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., NRC, OSHA, EPA, DOT, MDEQ, etc.) and company/site programs (e.g., license requirements, policies, practices, and records retention).

  • Directly responsible for workplace safety of employees, involving job safety analysis, pre-job briefings, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, accident and injury reporting, safety meetings and human performance stand-downs.

  • Guides the implementation of process improvements or corrective actions to resolve identified deficiencies.

  • Manages and controls costs and staffing within approved budgets; directs activities to minimize waste and inefficiencies; promotes teamwork and opportunities to maximize continuous improvement.

  • Monitors industry issues and benchmarks to minimize the impact of emergent issues or evolving standards.

  • Observes and evaluates work group performance, problems, and issues, and provides recommendations to department management for changes to work group and department policies, practices, methods, or processes.

  • Supports the achievement of company, plant, and personnel safety and environmental goals.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND 4 years of experience in Radiation Protection

Preferred: Associate degree or completion of a training & qualification program in the discipline of Radiation Protection/Health Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Health/Science, or related licenses/certifications

Technical Specialist or Radioactive/Hazardous Materials Shipping Specialist

Job Summary: Apply technical knowledge of Radiation Protection/Chemistry Program to monitor performance, anticipate problems, analyze issues, develop and recommend solutions. Propose ideas for improvements that will assure program regulatory compliance, the achievement of defined performance measures, and the safe and reliable operation, maintenance, and refueling of the nuclear power plan (involving customer service and support of over 1000 normally, to as many as 2000 personnel during an outage).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Investigate technical problems, evaluate data collected, determine causes, and recommended solutions.

  • Provide technical consulting within discipline, conferring/ collaborating with employees, supervision, and management and/or by serving on committees, task forces or solution teams.

  • Research, gather data, and compile and assemble special reports/self-assessments, working within the constraints for confidentiality and safeguarding of information.

  • Compare the quality and implementation of technical programs to industry best practices and lessons learned, and formulate recommendations for continuous improvements.

  • Develop ideas and materials that improve existing work methods, services, or outcomes, and promote the accomplishment of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable), error-free, quality and environmentally compliant results.

  • Maintain technical expertise through training, self-study, and professional development activities.

  • Maintain cognizance of nuclear industry standards and practices.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Science with no experience

  • OR Associate degree in related field AND 3+ years of experience

  • OR High school diploma/equivalent AND 4+ years of experience

Technical level or Radioactive/Hazardous Materials Shipping Specialist

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Science AND 3+ years of experience in the Nuclear Power Industry or discipline specific experience

  • OR Associate degree in Enginering, Engineering Technology, or Science AND 5+ years of experience in the Nuclear Power Industry or discipline specific experience

  • OR High school diploma/equivalent AND 7+ years of experience in the Nuclear Power Industry

  • Preferred: Training and/or education in Radiation Protection/Health Physics/Environmental Health/Chemistry discipline, cause analysis/problem solving, human performance techniques, self-assessment, and continuous improvement

Senior level

  • Associate degree

  • Eight years direct involvement in particular discipline Rad Protection/Health Physics, Environmental Health/Chemistry or four years of experience if completed specialized training or possess related licenses or certifications

  • Training and/or education in Radiation Protection, Health Physics, Environmental Health, Chemistry discipline, cause analysis/problem solving, human performance techniques, self-assessment, continuous improvement

  • Six years of work experience in nuclear industry; or a minimum of ten years of nuclear industry experience without degree
