Testing Required:

On-Site Role: Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Assures that the Nuclear Generation Chemistry and Radiation Protection Programs are maintained in full compliance with federal state, and local regulatory requirements, and effectively supports company and business unit strategic objectives involving public, plant and personnel safety; reliability; efficiency; and learning. The RPM, Radiation Protection Manager, is a required position per NRC Regulatory Guide 1.8, with responsibilities and authority to formulate and administer plant programs and procedures that ensure radiation protection for plant personnel, members of the public, and the environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyzes data, trends, reports, and resource use related to the Radiation Protection or Chemistry Program and minimizing personnel exposures, and recommends positions, policies, strategies, or goals and objectives to site management.

  • Assures compliance with federal and state regulations NRC, OSHA, EPA, DOT and company and site programs and license requirements, policies, practices, and records retention

  • RPM serves as the site Radiation Protection Program interface with regulators and public officials under authority delegated by the Director, Nuclear Production.

  • Evaluates work group performance against key program and applicable site performance indicators, and analyzes internal processes and plans, to formulate and guide the development and implementation of process improvements or corrective actions to resolve identified deficiencies.

  • Manages and controls costs and staffing within approved budgets, directs Chemistry or Radiation Protection Program activities to minimize waste and inefficiencies, and promotes opportunities to maximize continuous improvement.

  • Monitors industry issues and benchmarks to minimize the impact of emergent issues or evolving standards.

  • Promotes teamwork, by representing the Chemistry or Radiation Protection Program as the program management interface with senior management and other site groups to coordinate, monitor, and support the cooperative accomplishment of site activities, initiatives, or the joint resolution of plant problems.

  • Supports the achievement of company, plant, and personnel safety and environmental protection goals.

  • Ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit: planning, organizing, directing the performance of on-going activities and/or special/ad hoc assignments, staffing (employee selections, training, coaching and performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting and budgeting.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Three years of supervisory experience or leading/managing others

  • Discipline based qualifications as follows:

Program General Supervisor - Radiation Protection

  • High school diploma or GED with 8 years of experience in applied Radiation Protection at commercial nuclear power plant; or

  • Associate's degree or technical diploma with 5 years of experience in applied Radiation Protection at commercial nuclear power plant

Program General Supervisor - Chemistry

  • High school diploma or GED with 8 years of experience in commercial nuclear power, inclusive of 5 years of experience in chemistry with a minimum of 1 year in radiochemistry. A minimum of 2 years of the 5 years experience should be related technical training. A maximum of 4 years of the 5 years of experience may be fulfilled by related technical training or academic training.

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree, technical diploma, or concentrated coursework in health, physics, radiation protection, or discipline-specific licenses or certifications

Other Requirements

  • Manages multiple projects, time, and information flow; formulates cost conscious goals and measures; collaborates to build consensus through win-win negotiating and the application of systematic decision making.

  • Leadership skills necessary to be in command of critical chemistry-related issues.

  • Sets challenging targets for continuous improvement and assured regulatory compliance; prioritizes tasks, overcomes obstacles, accepts accountability and achieves high standards for quality, safety and timely results

  • Sets realistic, customer and employee centered expectations and monitors delegated activities; exhibits flexibility and openmindedness with a team focus, encouraging feedback from others and providing recognition; treats others with respect and consideration; sensitive to and supportive of a diverse workforce.
