Job Summary

PSEG is looking for talented technology professionals to join our team. Our vision is to power the digital future of PSEG. The Senior Technology Professional is a direct report to the IT Infrastructure Real-Time Operations Supervisor within IT Engineering group with the understanding of business goals, business processes, and technology expertise in one or more domains, technology solution designs and implementations regarding the OT Nokia environment.

The Senior Technology Professional will be involved in the full systems life cycle and responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing and supporting application software and systems. Senior Technology Professionals will work closely with Business Analysts and Group Product Managers to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and physical.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and overseeing field installations and network and operations related to PSEGs Field Area Network (FAN) wireless communication infrastructure including modifications, maintenance, and monitoring of LTE communication networks.

  • Work closely with Utility’s operations teams to ensure the accurate, timely, and efficient day to day management, monitoring and support of all interrelated business systems.

  • Ensure high levels of wireless infrastructure availability and reliability while providing system support and response.

  • Install, modify, maintain, and configure field area network devices such as LTE & mesh routers and other RF based field assets.

  • Monitor and deploy security patches as required to maintain a secure system; provide support for network security to ensure wireless network integrity.

  • Ensure high levels of availability and reliability of the field area network systems.

  • Provide technical and/or business analysis in support of technology applications or infrastructure.

  • Analyze simple to moderately complex inquiries and determines appropriate technical area or vendor to resolve problems and makes suggestions for improvements.

  • Execute smaller projects and/or support tasks and typically maintain a high level of direct client interaction.

  • Work closely with management, clients, other systems technical staff and vendors in problem solving.

  • Consult with the supervisor and IT professionals when the appropriate course of action is unclear, or a major problem is suspected.

  • Responsible for operating and maintaining production systems, as well as providing hardware/software equipment support.

  • Provide technical support and guidance to client and systems areas through consulting, teaching and publication of documentation.

  • After hour on-call incident response and resolution support.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Competencies:

-Experience documenting technical solutions or business and system process flow techniques using applicable methods such as engineering drawings, UML (e.g., Use Case Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, Entity Relationship Diagrams) etc.

-Ability to create both technical and non-technical end-user documentation.

-Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively.

-Demonstrated understanding of projects from the perspective of client/user, business, cyber security and technology day to day operations.

-Flexible and willing to accept a change in priorities as necessary.

-Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.

-Excellent problem-solving skills.

-Working knowledge of Transmission, Distribution, Gas Delivery, and NERC CIP specific areas including business process configuration and execution for those assigned domains.

-The ability to work effectively with internal clients from various business organizations and lines of business, and IT management and staff.

-Ability to work in a 24x7 environment with callout availability required.

Required Education & Skillset:

-Bachelor’s degree in computer science or 2 - 4 years of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) equivalent experience.

-At least 2 years of experience in design and administration of field area network or wireless RF telecommunications systems.

-Working knowledge of mesh communication network technologies, telecommunication & wireless RF systems.

-Demonstrated experience with common networking protocols and services including Advanced File Transfer (AFT), TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, SSH, FTP/SFTP, SNMP, LDAP, LFTP and tools for accessing these end points like WinSCP, Putty, FileZilla etc.

-Overall strong technical proficiency in Information Technology/computer disciplines.

-Strong MS Office skills (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.

Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts quickly.

-Detail oriented and demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

-Good analytical and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, IT management and other staff.

-Good communications, consultative and interpersonal skills, including oral, written and presentation; teamwork, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation with the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with peers and clients.

Desired Education & Skillset:

-Graduate degree or MBA.

-Demonstrated knowledge of Electric & Gas distribution systems.

-Experience working with bargaining units as well as municipal and government entities.

-Experience working with mesh communication networks, specifically Nokia LTE field routers and Network Service Platform (NSP).

Experience working with SolarWinds and mission critical technology solutions.

-Exposure to Cybersecurity and best practices.

-Understanding financial principles as they apply to technology investments such as cost to achieve, cost to operate, depreciation, maintenance etc.

-Experience with scripting and automation with the expectation that the candidate will be an active participant in the emerging automation culture that is present in our organization.
