As part of PSEG’s digital transformation, we are looking to use technology in new and innovative ways to introduce new business capabilities and achieve industry leading business outcomes. As our Technology Architect, you will work to build and manage a robust integration platform that lay the foundation for our Energy Cloud strategy, as well as influence the future direction of the platform. You will lead our API Center for Enablement (C4E) team which sets the standards and assists in the API design and microservices that are created by multiple teams through agile software development practices.

API based application integration and microservices are mainstream modern information technology capabilities that PSEG needs to adopt in order to be able to achieve the targeted business outcomes. This position is directly linked to ensure success of PSEG investments in API integration and microservices.

The Technology Architect works to conceptualize and assemble architecture designs to ensure that business needs are met through existing architectures or proper enhancement of those, while improving business performance, facilitate user adoption and optimizing cost. The architect partners with various stakeholders such as product owner(s), technology engineers and enterprise architects to define technical requirements and to translate those requirements, along with business requirements, into an architectural blueprint that integrates applications, systems, platforms and infrastructure to achieve business objectives. The defined architecture(s) will consider and support regulatory requirements and policies. This role requires prior development skills in various areas of the stack with sufficiently fluency in both front and back-end platforms and the associated development technologies. Candidate must have a passion to build high-quality enterprise software systems based on industry best practices.


  • Develops policies, standards, guidelines, procedures and metrics associated with API based interactions and micro services that measure architectural quality and business outcomes

  • Partners and collaborates with all stakeholders to understand and translate goals and objectives into architecture, roadmaps and capability models around API based interactions and micro services. Reconcile different perspectives and drive toward consensus.

  • Looks across applications, infrastructure, technology components and data when developing roadmaps and capability models that outline how API based interactions and microservices are and will be structured

  • Creates and maintains reusable artifacts and patterns around API based interactions and micro services. Harvests artifacts across initiatives to extend the library of reusable artifacts and patterns or to enhance the existing reusable artifacts.

  • Lead enterprise adoption of APIs, microservices and agile enterprise application development practices

  • Engages with implementation teams to encourage and promote use of existing models, methods, services and other artifacts and capabilities resulting in increased speed of technology solution delivery, making such delivery more predictable and increasing the overall re-use of technology components.

  • Researches architectural paradigms and modern architecture constructs. Learns how processes such as continuous delivery or technologies such as microservices impact technology architecture

  • Ensures compatibility with existing solutions infrastructure, services and strategic requirements

  • Act as a bridge among various parties during implementation of architecture components and their integration

  • Communicates the objectives and business outcomes of the technology architecture and the associated use cases in which the organization will derive the most value

  • Provides support and leadership to inform and aid evaluation and decision making in technology spending

  • Participates in the ecosystem strategy development, including environmental analysis, opportunity identification, value cases and business innovation portfolio developmentRequired Skills, Competencies, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field

  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, specifically agile and waterfall

  • Experience with microservices architecture and 12 factor application methodology

  • This is a multi-level position and placement will be dependent upon the candidate’s knowledge, skills, competencies and experience.

  • Sr Technology Architect – 4 or more years of software development experience and 3 years in an architect role

  • Principal Technology Architect – 6 years or more years of software development experience and 3 years in an architect role

  • Sr Principal Technology Architect - 8 years or more years of software development experience and 3 years in an architect role

  • Plus a minimum of 3 years of development involving Mulesoft for API management and ESB as well as microservices using CI/CD pipeline with tools such as Swagger, GitHub, Maven, Jenkins, JMeter, Junit, Selenium, SonarQube, Docker, Docker Compose etc.Desired Skills, Competencies, Education and Experience:

  • Graduate degree or MBA.

  • Experience with public cloud providers

  • Experience implementing off the shelf products

  • Experience with mission critical technology solutions

  • Understanding financial principles as they apply to technology investments such as cost to achieve, cost to operate, depreciation, maintenance etc.
