The successful candidate is expected to be (become) an expert in the PJM, ISONE, and NYISO energy markets. This is a multi-level position, with level placement dependent upon the skills and experience of the candidate

Responsibilities:

  • Develop short term and longer term strategies that support PSEG Power’s business and development objectives.

  • Participate in PJM ARR/FTR process for retail/wholesale hedge portfolio.

  • Regularly interact with senior management to discuss strategies, business implications, and market developments which affect the Power business.

  • Understand and operate within PSEG ER&T’s policies and procedures, risk management and corporate guidelines.

  • Monitor weather, load, price behavior, transmission constraints/outages, and generation outages to identify risks to the company position and take appropriate actions to mitigate portfolio risk.

  • Optimize market bids and congestion hedges and provide basis pricing for PJM, NYISO, ISONE and various other energy markets.

  • Develop fundamental congestion and bidding/trading strategies by performing power flow analysis, conducting research in market fundamentals, and managing diversified portfolios.

  • Perform transmission analyses to identify short and long term congestion risks and to assist with hedging activities for PSEG’s Power business.

  • Conduct power flow analysis using technologies including Dayzer, and PSS/E models.

  • Analyze large sets of data to quantify trading risk exposures and support decision-making related to congestion forecasts.

  • Performing quantitative analysis including transmission and congestion analysis to identify risks and opportunities for power market growth.

  • Managing diversified portfolios of FTR products and hedging customer flow business.

  • Utilizing and calibrating security constrained production cost models like Dayzer.

  • Utilize power flow and production cost based simulation applications to develop congestion outlooks.

  • Participate in monthly, annual, and long term FTR auctions in PJM, NYISO, ISONE and various other energy markets.

  • Strategically evaluate PJM, NYISO, and ISONE markets for potential growth.

  • Create databases to evaluate historical market data, path and portfolio selection and risk management criteria.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, Education or Experience : (Associate Energy Trader)

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of 2 years real time generation dispatch / portfolio optimization experience in the power pools that we operate (PJM, NYISO, ISONE).

Required Qualifications, Competencies, Education or Experience : (Energy Trader)

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of 5 years energy industry experience

  • Minimum of 2 years FTR trading experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, Education or Experience : (Senior Energy Trader)

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of 7 years energy industry experience

  • Minimum of 5 years FTR trading experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, Education or Experience :

  • Experience trading FTRs in the PJM, NYISO, ISONE MISO or ERCOT markets

  • Experience in managing the ARR/FTR process for a retail/wholesale hedge portfolio

  • Direct experience trading financial and physical power in PJM, NYISO, and ISONE.Strong attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to manage projects in a heavily rules based environment.Understanding of electric markets and power portfolio management.

  • Ability to analyze and execute financial transactions at PJM Western Hub.

  • Ability to analyze and execute virtual transactions in PJM, NYISO, and ISONE.

  • Ability to analyze and execute physical power flows in PJM, NYISO, ISONE.

  • Experience monitoring weather, load, price behavior, transmission constraints/outages, and generation outages to identify risks to the company position and take appropriate actions to mitigate portfolio risk.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, team player.Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, results oriented, creative and innovative.
