Technical Asset Manager - Safari Energy (a PPL Company)

Primary Responsibilities:

System Monitoring – 30%

  1. Monitor and analyze system production using internet-based data acquisition system to identify issues and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

  2. Provide system monitoring support for field technicians.

  3. Utilize internal production reporting platform for tracking system production across fleet.

  4. Recommend product improvements based on field performance and Operations team feedback.

  5. Provide feedback to engineering team for production estimates based on field observations.

System Maintenance – 50%

  1. Manage internal and external field service resources to maximize service efficiency and minimize site downtime.

  2. Work within contractual and budgetary requirements to maximize portfolio production.

  3. Supervise subcontracted annual O&M services including preventative maintenance, panel washing, and ground maintenance.

  4. Enforce all company, quality and safety standards during all inspections and maintenance activities.

  5. Dispatch subcontracted O&M services for ad hoc maintenance issues and reactive work.

  6. Maintain site warranty databases and ensure compliance with warranty requirements.

  7. Track causes of system issues and make recommendations to procurement and operations team for equipment selection.

  8. Keep databases of site photos, reports, and equipment information via Work Orders.

  9. Create vendor Purchase Orders.

  10. Manage integration of new assets into fleet and streamline asset handover process.

Coordination/Communication – 10%

  1. Establish, maintain, and improve relationships with client operations managers.

  2. Coordinate and schedule utility maintenance shutdowns when needed.

  3. Provide updates on system improvements/repairs and site visits to Technical Asset Management Team.

  4. Provide technical information on systems/equipment as needed.

Troubleshooting/Supplier Communication – 10%

  1. Work with equipment/inverter/DAS technical support to troubleshoot and resolve any system issues.

  2. Manage RMA processes and replacement of faulty components including delivery and returns of equipment.

Travel - Domestic travel required – up to 30%

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Maintenance (O&M), the Technical Asset Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of solar projects. The manager is responsible for monitoring system performance and performing corrective actions as required, utilizing both internal and external resources, and maintaining a database with key information of operating projects.

Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a rapidly growing, early stage company.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in technical field such as Engineering, Construction Management, etc.

  2. A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a technical capacity for a commercial photovoltaic company or designing commercial distributed generation systems.

  3. A minimum 3 years’ experience in a field management role.

  4. Knowledgeable in standard applied codes such as the NEC.

  5. Knowledge of photovoltaic system design and optimizing system components for energy production.

  6. Knowledge of electrical and structural design components and manufacturers.

  7. Experience in the use of energy modeling systems for photovoltaic applications and the variables/constraints related to energy production.

  8. Experience in value engineering of photovoltaic or other constructions projects.

  9. Strong working knowledge of standard utility process for interconnection approval and design requirements.

  10. Strong organizational and scheduling skills to maintain project schedules.

  11. Understanding of communication devices and protocols such as Modbus and TCP.

  12. Electrical troubleshooting skills including AC/DC ground faults, DAS communication issues, breaker/fuse trips, and generic PV system problems.

  13. Familiar with DAS providers and platforms (Locus, Also Energy, etc.).

  14. Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD).

  15. Advanced customer interface skills required.

  16. Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
