Job Description

Mission Statement

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in discipline of responsibility, respond and resolve field issues, support operating groups, including Business Continuity drills and participate in CERC during corporate emergencies guiding the analysis of system events.

  • Direct and supervise engineers and/or designers on projects for steam plants.

  • Coordinates with Steam Business Unit and the Capital Strategy section in developing the five-year capital budget plan, and implements the plan as developed in accordance with approved cash flows.

  • Develop and implement plans for execution of engineering packages and studies in a cost effective, timely, and quality manner, in accordance with procedures and specifications.

  • Foster teamwork and open communication with other engineering team members, user organizations and construction to establish project priorities and schedules.

  • Prepare, monitor and manage budgets, workload and resource plans to meet organization objectives.

  • Develop and manage activities of outside consultants and ensure procedures and controls are implemented and followed.

  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering guidelines, standards, specifications and procedures.

  • Responsible for leadership and technical development of human resources.

  • Provides supervision and guidance to the section personnel in carrying out assigned functions. Coordinate functions with other sections in the organization.

  • Responsible for managing the section Clearing and O&M budgets, meeting the Key Performance Indicators and goals, and allocating organization resources.

  • Participate and represent the company on engineering and technical industry committees.

  • Foster an atmosphere of teamwork, integrity, honesty, professionalism, excellence and open communication.

  • Ensure housekeeping practices are followed.

  • Perform special projects and assignments as needed.

  • Provide opportunities that support diversity & inclusion in the workplace.

  • Perform other related task and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering And 8 years applicable experience to include: engineering, operations and/or maintenance within a power plant environment, management of engineering budget to support capital, expense and retirement projects, Subject Matter expertise in concrete, steel, foundations, and other major structures such as industrial buildings, waterfronts, stacks and fuel oil tanks Or

  • Master's Degree with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering And 6 years applicable experience to include: engineering, operations and/or maintenance within a power plant environment, management of engineering budget to support capital, expense and retirement projects, Subject Matter expertise in concrete, steel, foundations, and other major structures such as industrial buildings, waterfronts, stacks and fuel oil tanks.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree in related field.

Relevant Work Experience

  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and 8 years related experience, or 6 years related experience with Master's Degree. Related experience to include engineering, operations and/or maintenance of within a power plant environment, management of engineering budget to support capital, expense and retirement projects, Subject Matter expertise in concrete, steel, foundations, and other major structures such as industrial buildings, waterfronts, stacks and fuel oil tanks.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in engineering codes, specification development, project management/ development and workflow management.

  • Strong written, verbal, presentation communication skills, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels and motivate employees.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational and analytical skills.

  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office.

  • Previous supervisory experience and/or team lead experience.

  • NYS Professional Engineering License. Req

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

  • Professional Engineer (PE) NYS Professional Engineering License Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.

  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the Company service territory, as needed.

  • Must be willing and able to respond to emergencies 24/7 as required by system conditions.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively, work at elevations, in confined spaces, in extreme heat, cold and noisy environments.

  • Must be able and willing to work in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able and willing to wear required PPE.
