Core Responsibilities

  • The Energy Storage team is at the core of the Con Edison strategic vision to help the New York State achieve its Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA) goals. Reporting to the Department Manager, this role is pivotal to the deployment of energy storage projects and development of innovative distributed energy resources (DERs) on the Distribution System. Selected candidate will manage execution of utility owned storage assets over the project life cycle, ensure contract compliance for developer owned assets procured through our Bulk Storage Solicitations and responsible for collaborating with customers, internal stakeholder organizations, renewable energy developers, regulators, utilities, and government funding agencies.

  • Individuals in these roles will support the execution and commissioning of the current and future energy storage projects. Selected candidates will develop Subject Matter expertise in renewable energy projects and identify opportunities to enhance the internal and external customer experience through engagement, collaboration and process improvement.

  • The Project Manager will work with third party vendors and internal organizations on the development of the first of a kind DC system to pair DERs and future battery storage projects either company owned or procured through the Company's Bulk Storage Solicitations. The Project Manager will be responsible for executing on innovative technical designs, facilitating successful implementation of projects and identifying opportunities to enhance the internal and external customer experience. Leveraging the lessons learn, the candidate will be responsible for implementing best practice and streamlining the Company processes.

  • Manage the execution and implementation of storage projects with scheduling services contracts procured through Bulk Storage Solicitations. Ensure the contracted developer meets all milestones, on time and consistent with contract.

  • Closely monitor project costs, ensure contract compliance, and release contract payments to the developer. Report on costs and project progress to senior management.

  • Work collaboratively with transmission and distribution teams to facilitate timely development and construction of the project's interconnection, to facilitate review of testing and acceptance procedures to commission storage projects consistent with the contract and assist in the development and implementation of required energy storage control center communications (NYISO, Energy Control Center and Regional Control Center) procedures and protocols.

  • Design, engineer, procure, construct, and maintain the first of a its Kind DC bus microgrid system at the Cedar Street Substation.

  • Responsible for writing RFPs, white papers, demonstration agreements, budgets and preparing presentations for upper management. Lead economic and cost benefit analysis for projects.

  • Negotiate energy storage RFP scope, contract terms and conditions, performance, and credit requirements, and change orders through project life cycle for Company owned assets.

  • Ensure coordination and cross-departmental alignment of energy storage integration, including but not limited to Electric Operations, Central Operations and Shared Services organizations.

  • Develop and maintain operating procedures and specifications for design, integrations/testing, commissioning, operations, and market participation (including dispatch rights) for each energy storage asset.

  • Identify opportunities in collaboration with stakeholder organizations in Customer Energy Solutions, Electric Operations and Central Operations departments to align processes and procedures, while ensuring alignment with company requirements, industry regulations and best practices.

  • Represent the Company's interests with external stakeholders, such as the New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) Staff.

  • Communicate and engage with external stakeholders such as PSC, NYSERDA, Joint Utilities as well as other Market participants regarding energy storage.

  • Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical) And 10 years of related work experience is required Or

  • Master's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical) And 6 years related work experience

Relevant Work Experience

  • Requires a minimum of 6 years of engineering work experience including technical knowledge of Utility electrical system, energy storage systems, and construction. .

  • 6 years of demonstrated work experience managing complex projects associated with DERs. .

  • Experience related to research, engineering and/or operations of utility electrical systems (distribution & transmission).

  • Knowledge of DC systems design and engineering. Preferred erred.

  • Knowledge of NYC, NYS, and NYISO energy storage rules, regulations, and goals.

  • Proven leadership skills, innovation, and ability to adapt to change. Required uired

  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. This position does not come with a Company vehicle, but mileage will be paid if travel is done to project sites as per the guidelines of the mileage procedure.
