Director, Project Development (Safari Energy - A PPL Company)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the in-house expert on complex regulatory and policy issues related to C&I solar and battery storage development in support of Safari’s mission to maximize benefits for our clients

  • Lead internal “deal-teams” collaborating with Business Development, Finance, Engineering, Operations, and Asset Management

  • Lead a cross-functional team of internal and external parties to spearhead the development cycle through the various stages and processes

  • Develop expertise in federal and state incentive programs, interconnection, and net metering rules to strategically advance Safari Energy’s position in the industry

  • Perform desk-top and site due diligence in conjunction with business development to qualify site development risks

  • Develop and implement a strategy using internal and external resources to meet regulatory requirements and gain project approvals

  • Manage client communications and weekly reports

  • Leverage solar and battery storage development expertise to assist in project origination, streamlining project develop cycle, and opening new market opportunities

  • Identify and lead the support of key project deadlines and milestones

  • Management of renewable energy credits

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Project Development, the Director will act as the point of contact for all development activities including feasibility, permitting, interconnection, incentives, construction, and close-out. He or she will demonstrate an entrepreneurial passion for renewable energy development and a desire to work with clients to transform the way they procure energy. This is a hands-on position which will require a high attention to detail, superior communication skills, and the ability to work within a cross-functional team of professionals. The ability to work independently and as a team member are critical, as well as the desire and innovative mind set to operate as an important contributor within a fast-pace, early stage company environment.

Candidate Qualifications:

Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a rapidly growing, early stage company.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or engineering

  • Advanced degree is preferred

  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience with a developer, utility company, regulatory agency or project

  • Proven ability to quickly and accurately solve problems and come up with value added solutions

  • Track-record of working on teams to support energy, infrastructure or real estate projects

  • Outstanding organizational and people skills

  • Understanding of engineering and renewable energy systems

  • Understanding of project and structured finance

  • Understanding of the renewable energy credits markets

  • Understanding of battery storage systems for commercial application

  • Attention to detail
