Con Edison Chief Construction Inspector / 1H in New York, New York

Qualifications: Central Construction is looking to recruit highly motivated, industrious and resourceful individuals to join the Central Construction team as Chief Construction Inspector. The successful candidates must be self-starters, responsible, articulate, and able to exercise good judgment and render sound business decisions. Knowledge of and experience with environmental laws and regulations, and OSHA rules and regulations for construction, to ensure environmental, health and safety compliance is required. Must demonstrate a positive work ethic in support of the Corporate Values and Mission, and be able to work toward meeting the department goals and Key Performance Indicators. Strong oral and written communication skills as well as good interpersonal skills is required to effectively interact with internal and external customers, including contractors, regulatory officials, community representatives. In addition, the candidates must have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and ensure that project schedules and budgets are maintained. Familiarity with and the ability to read, interpret, apply and enforce Con Edison’s drawings, specifications, and procedures is required. Knowledge/experience in contract administration, contract and material procurement and permitting processes and procedures is required. A Bachelor’s degree and 2 years field construction experience, or Associates Degree and 4 years field construction experience, or H.S. Diploma/GED and 5 years work experience field construction experience is required. Must be proficient and have a working knowledge of Microsoft office products, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project. Selected candidates will be required to take and pass the courses mandated for this position and other training such as asbestos monitor, lead competency, work permits and incident command when necessary.

Bachelor degree in engineering or architecture preferred.

Responsibilities: The Chief Construction Inspector (CCI) plans, directs, and supervises the activities of contractors performing various types of projects for Transmission, Substations, Generating Stations, Facilities, Remediation and Demolition Construction. Ensures that all work is performed in strict compliance with all the applicable company specifications, standards, and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements. The CCI shall take a proactive approach to ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner, promoting a zero harm culture with contractor and Con Edison personnel. Acts as the construction supervisor or as an individual representative and will be accountable to make field decisions to ensure successful project completion. Conducts field inspections to ensure that all company facilities are protected, supported and maintained in accordance with all engineering specifications. Must understand all of the contract bid requirements/documents and have the ability to interface with design, engineering, supply chain and estimating organizations to obtain the required information to resolve technical, field or contract issues. Monitors all project controls, such as schedule, costs, productivity and provides timely and accurate data and documentation required for contractor payments. Keeps accurate records of progress, utilizing daily logbooks and computer software, provides data for monthly accrual requirements, projecting monthly contract spend, schedule tracking and change order work. Ensures that all contract changes are processed in accordance with the Contract Administration Manual. Monitors and ensures that the contractor is resourcing the project with the appropriate personnel, material, and equipment to complete the project within schedule. Ensures that all company-supplied equipment or materials are ordered and delivered in sufficient time to meet the project schedule and budget. Observe and document contractor performance through the Contractor Oversight System. Reports all infractions as required by procedure and regulations to managers. Must be able to interact and resolve internal and external customer issues in a timely manner. Maintains transparent communication with subordinates, peers and manager immediately advising the team of any potential problems, extras, damages, injuries, or incidents. . Treats all regulatory and/or enforcement officials and public representatives with courtesy and professionalism, and ensures that their inquiries and requests are addressed fairly and timely.


Physical Requirements: Position requires a valid driver's license to travel between various work locations within the Co Ed service territory. Position requires use of a personal vehicle on a mileage basis if no company vehicles are available. Position requires walking and climbing and candidates must be able to wear the proper PPE. Working nights, weekends, and holidays is also required.
