AES Senior Analyst, Permitting-1 in New York (Clean Energy), New York

The candidate for this position can be based out of our Richmond VA or New York, New York office or remote, depending on the candidate’s current location. The role is intended to continue to build the skillsets of the Permitting Senior Analyst level under the mentorship of Permitting Project Managers (PMs), Senior Permitting PMs, Managers (senior staff) and other groups within AES Clean Energy. Duties of the Permitting Senior Analyst will include supporting senior staff with day-to-day permitting, environmental and land use entitlement efforts, as well as assisting with the coordination with AHJs and other agencies. The position involves coordination with senior staff, developers, real estate, execution, community relations and other groups within AES Clean Energy, and across multiple offices. The successful candidate will have the ability to succeed in completing multiple project-related tasks and supporting project development efforts in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

The Permitting Senior Analyst will work with senior staff and cross-functional teams in activities leading to the successful development and hand-off of renewable energy projects to the execution teams for construction of our projects. Specific duties will include:

  • Conduct initial site screenings, due diligence and fatal flaw analyses that identify environmental and permitting constraints on potential project sites.

  • Assist senior staff with securing land use permits for new and acquired solar power generating facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions.

  • Support senior staff and third-party consultants on acquiring and reviewing technical and environmental studies for renewable project development.

  • Assist senior staff with management of contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget.

  • Assist senior staff in preparing Compliance Package for project handoff to permitting compliance and execution teams.

  • Participate in meetings with the community, elected officials, and regulators as needed.

  • Assist in cost reduction initiatives, vendor development, and invoice audits.Under senior staff guidance, learn to identify and elevate risks.

  • Work with senior staff to negotiate project design and mitigation measures with local, state, and federal regulators.Begin taking on specific independent project task management efforts under guidance from senior staff.

Desired Skills and Expertise:

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, geography, or related field.

  • 2-5 years of permitting experience in development, preferably in utility-scale renewables environment.

  • Knowledge of or experience with AHJs/permitting requirements in region where you would be working.

  • Strong organizational, communication, problem solving, decision making, analytical and time management skills.

  • Confidence in ability to work autonomously and thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

  • Ability to communicate efficiently in verbal and written correspondence.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth preferred.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $75,000 and $106,250/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
