The Contract Billing Specialist will be responsible for all accounting activities related to contract customers, including preparing invoices, recording accrual entries, preparing analyses, and responding to questions from stakeholders.
Serves as the accounting expert with regard to contract customer issues.
Responsible for insuring that customers are billed in accordance with complex contracts, that related accounting transactions are booked in accordance with GAAP, and that control procedures are followed.
Provides analytic input in response to internal and external customer requests. Analyzes impact of potential contract changes. Assists with budget preparation and analysis.
Anticipates internal and external challenges related to contract issues and suggests solutions.
Recommends process and system improvements to streamline and automate the contract billing process.
Ensures compliance with controls and suggests control improvements.
Monitors regulatory environment and anticipates impact on billing process.
Familiar with customer contracts
Interacts with management on a regular basis both within the Accounting Department and with other stakeholders, including customers, Cleco Cajun management, and other Cleco departments.
May lead projects or project teams related to customer contract issues.
Shares knowledge and cross-trains with accounting employees with similar responsibilities.
Interacts with the internal and external auditors.
Works independently and receives minimal guidance.
Decision-making involves the use of judgment and there is some emphasis on the development of new/improved procedures and on the translation of policy into operational plans.
Solves unique and complex problems that has broad impact on the business.

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
Advanced degree and/or certifications preferred
7+ years of related experience
