JOB PURPOSE

Entergy Power Through is an energy resilience service that offers sustainable backup generation solutions to commercial and industrial customers at a discounted rate. The discount is created by offering generator power to the grid during peak demand times. We partner with external Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partners, manufacturers, and internal teams to create a unique offering for our customers.

The Senior Lead Engineer of Projects and Technical Services will ensure that the Power Through team meets the company’s strategic objectives by leading development and implementation of technical standards, specifications, distribution and transmission interconnection, maintenance, and IT processes, procedures and systems to ensure the power through assets are designed, installed, operated, monitored, controlled, and maintained to maximize generator startup and run times to meet Customer, Entergy and MISO expectations for the life of the assets while continuously improving with an eye to cost and the customer experience. This individual will be responsible for the development and the implementation of predictive, preventative and maintenance strategies, procedures, processes and IT Systems from project conception to completion and through operations for the entire life of the assets. This person will also support the development and implementation of project design, implementation, permitting, material procurement, construction, commissioning and customer acceptance. This position is responsible for supporting sales growth and long term operations of Entergy Power Through generator solutions in all five Operating Companies from its first year of operation onward to reach safety, sales, installation, customer satisfaction, and operational goals under the leadership of the Senior Manager of Project and Technical Services. This individual will work with the Business Operations and Implementation Manager to develop and implement projects, processes, IT systems that supports the successful operations of generators by the Energy Management Office (EMO). This individual will support, and review all outages and critical operational events by providing technical expertise during event, and performing root cause analysis after the event, and if necessary adjusting standards, specifications, maintenance, processes, procedures and systems as a result of lessons learned from the event. For all Power Through assets, this individual will be responsible for the Asset Management and Maintenance plans while continuously improving asset performance, extending asset life, lowering cost and improving the customer experience.

This individual will succeed in this role by developing technical standards, specifications, processes, procedures and IT systems that drive Asset Operational Excellence from project design to execution through operations and maintenance by working with Power Through leadership, employees, contractors, consultants, vendors, manufactures and cross functional teams across the enterprise. This individual will work directly with the Project and Technical Services team to develop and implement project management, asset management, work management, corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, operations monitoring and control, processes, procedures and systems to meet overall Power Through Business Operations objectives. This individual will work collaboratively with the Power Through team and key stakeholders to support sales, marketing, design, construction, operations, MISO registration, business and revenue modelling to meet overall Power Through Business Operations objectives. This person will work with the Director, Sr Staff Analyst, Sr Mangers of Business Operations, and Projects and Technical Services to establish, monitor, analyze, report and drive business plans, asset management strategy, generator interconnection process, supervisory control and data acquisition systems to delivery safety, financial customer satisfaction and business operational performance metrics to ensure strong operational excellence in the implementation of sales, installation, operations, maintenance, and service.

Job Summary

The Senior Lead Engineer of Business Operations will ensure the and implementation of technical standards, specifications, distribution and transmission interconnection coordination, maintenance, and IT processes procedures, systems to ensure the power through assets are designed, installed, operated, monitored, controlled, and maintained to maximize generator startup and run times to meet Customer, Entergy and MISO expectations. This individual will be responsible for the development and the implementation of predictive, preventative and maintenance strategies, procedures, processes and IT Systems from project conception to completion through operations for the entire life of the assets. The Senior Lead Engineer will ensure the PT Assets are designed, installed, operated, maintained, monitored, controlled, analyzed and modified to maximize operational effectiveness and efficiency to meet safety, quality, customer satisfaction, operations and financial objectives. For all PT assets, this individual will be responsible for the Asset Management and Maintenance plans while continuously improving asset performance, extending asset life, lowering cost and improving the customer experience.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities for this position will drive operational business results by working as the single point of contact for technical aspects of the generator product solution with Power Through leadership, employees, customers, contractors, consultants, vendors, manufactures and cross functional teams across the enterprise to:

  • Provide detailed engineering guidance for Power Through design, installation, operations, monitoring, control and maintenance with focus on safety, reliability, customer service, project execution and financials.

  • Lead development and implementation of engineering, construction, maintenance, operations, monitoring, alarms, controls and equipment standards, specifications, processes and procedures for all power through assets including but not limited to generators, transfer switches, primary and secondary cables, transformers, utility interconnection, relays, controls and communication systems.

  • Lead development of standards for project design packages and scope of work documents for EPC contracts to ensure all documents including one-line drawings, electrical and mechanical schematics, equipment and material specification, design, maintenance, installation details and procedures are in accordance with applicable codes.

  • Provide engineering support, as needed, during the sales phase of the projects. Identifies, analyzes, and manages technical risk on projects. Participate in the effort for scoping and estimating of more complicated bids/proposals and mentor Power Through staff and EPC with respect to design, material and equipment standards, automation logic, protection and control coordination, interconnection requirements, SCADA and gas requirements. Identifies, analyzes, and develops strategies to manage technical risk on projects.

  • Participate in the supervision, review and approval of engineering and design work of EPC and third-party engineers. Review and approve design, drawings, diagrams and documentation to perform technical assessment of electrical and mechanical designs, load calculations, equipment and material sizing, power flow models, generator utility interconnection, gas flow analysis, short circuit analysis, relay and protective coordination, commissioning and controls during design, construction and commissioning phases to ensure EPC compliance with Entergy standards, applicable codes and regulations. Acts as main point of contact with distribution and transmission for interconnection request for distributed generation design and commissioning.

  • Lead review, approval, and oversight of project Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) design, installation and commissioning for RTUs, network switches, communications, firewalls, user Interaction, design, drawings, diagrams, point list, equipment configuration and commissioning.

  • Lead development, integration and implementation of Power Through Customer Site Generators into GIS mapping, grid interconnection, supervisory control, monitoring and data acquisition processes and systems to ensure the effective operation of customer sited generation safely to maximize operations and grid value.

  • Lead development and implementation of Entergy Power Through Asset Management, Corrective, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance strategies, processes, procedures and systems to ensure the Power Through assets provided customer service and operations throughout the life of the assets.

  • Support Outage restoration by review of sequence of event data and all available and relevant data to support returning equipment to service for customer backup generator support and MISO dispatch operations.

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis of all Outage Restoration and Operational Performance Events including but not limited to failure to start, equipment failure and human performance events. Develop and ensure implementation of Corrective Action Items from the Root Cause to improve the product, operations and customer service.

Additional Responsibilities for this position will drive operational business results by working with Power Through customers, leadership, employees, contractors, consultants, vendors, manufactures and cross functional teams across the enterprise to:

  • As needed, provide oversight, management and leadership of all Power Through Projects from conception to completion with focus on safety, customer service, project execution, financial and operational excellence.

  • As needed, ensure projects awarded are successfully executed within the project scope, requested lead time, with the highest safety and quality standards, and within the assigned budget. Provide technical, engineering, construction and contractor oversight, management and leadership during project execution phase, whether performed by EPC, sub-contractor, suppliers or Entergy as needed.

  • As needed, provide leadership, management and oversight of field construction and labor to ensure safe, quality, on-time, and within-budget delivery of projects that meets customer and company expectations. Ensure inspection and oversight of all projects to monitor compliance with all applicable safety, environmental codes, and regulations. Ensure projects are constructed to Customer and Entergy standards, specifications and expectations.

  • Support development and implementation of processes and solutions to ensure a seamless customer experience as it relates to the engineering, design, procurement, construction, interconnection to the electric grid, operations and asset management, maintenance and financial and budget management of the Power Through product in all of Entergy’s operating companies.

  • Support development and implementation of Entergy engineering, procurement, and construction to ensure the delivery of customer sited generation services safely, with quality, on-time and at the lowest possible cost.

  • Support development and implementation of Project Management Processes, IT Systems, Controls, and Methods to optimize process efficiency, project delivery, cost management, risk management, and portfolio management. Ensure Power Through Project Management is aligned and integrated with Entergy Stage Gate and Project Management Processes to optimize time, cost and financial efficiency and manage/mitigate risk.

  • Support development and implementation of Supply Chain processes to identify, evaluate, establish and managing strategic business alliances and contractual relationships with generator manufacturers, local and diverse installers, and asset managers in order to ensure safety and reliability for our customers, our environment and our communities.

Supports Development and Achievement of Key Performance Indicators for Power Through Business Operations project development and execution around value realization of safety, customer satisfaction, cost and budget management. The key metrics, targets and other objectives of success used to measure job performance are:

  • Safety : Employees, customers, contractors, distribution through internal activities, installations, and continuing operations achieve safety performance goals (target zero).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline four year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four year accredited institution with PE may be considered.

  • Preferred : Master’s in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or advanced degree in Business.

Minimum experience required of the position:

6+ years experience in an engineering discipline.

Preferred experience for the position :

  • 8 years of progressive experience in operations, engineering, construction, project management with specific experience in utility operations or related field

  • At least five years’ experience leading people and projects in a project, engineering or construction management with proven track record of customer service excellence by delivering projects on-time and within budget.

  • Previous experience developing and improving processes, procedures and specifications used in design, construction, project management, operations and maintenance of electrical utility assets.

  • Cross-functional leadership experience preferred.

  • Experience working in a regulated utility performing engineering, construction, project or operations management of distribution, transmission, generation assets, products and services.

  • Experience designing, constructing, operating, maintaining, monitoring and controlling natural gas generators ranging from 100kW-10MW,

  • Experience developing customer proposals for customer construction projects such as generators, electrical distribution, transmission, generators and lighting.

  • Experience performing contract management from development of scope of work, award, field management, negotiation and change request management.

  • Experience utilizing Maximo or equivalent Work Management System (WMS).

  • Experience utilizing and/or designing and/or implementing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) or equivalent system.

  • Experience utilizing and/or designing and/or Asset Management, GIS Mapping or equivalent systems.

  • Experience utilizing Corrective Action Tracking Systems for Safety and Quality Corrections and Compliance.

  • Experience in the development, measurement, and management of KPIs, goals, and metrics.

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

Functional Knowledge : Requires functional understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of:

  • Key electrical, civil and mechanical engineering concepts, codes, diagrams, drawings and documents such as general, piping, instrumentation and single line diagrams

  • Key field engineering, safety, quality and commercial construction management practices and processes.

  • Electrical components including generators, transfer switches, transformers, relays, control, metering, customer and utility electrical systems.

  • Natural gas generators and associated equipment, technologies and applications
