National Grid Gas Mechanic B (2) in New Hartford, New York
About the Position:
Under direct supervision to perform the less complex types of installation and repair work on gas transmission, distribution and regulating systems including the operation of trenching machines, backhoes, loaders, sidebooms, tamping machines, pipe boring machines, plastic fusion equipment, etc; to install, maintain and replace mains and services and relight customers' appliances incidental to replacement or renewal services; to cut and thread pipe; to do less skilled welding; perform various jobs which require considerable knowledge and experience; to assist in training employees in a lower classification and as proficiency increases to perform work of progressively increasing variety and complexity.
Under general supervision to make regular and special inspections, surveys and perform such duties as: patrol transmission and distribution lines for potential hazards; make vegetation surveys and locate leaks by various means as required; inspect manholes and other subsurface structures for presence of gas or other unsafe conditions; locate Company underground facilities in connection with excavation by others and make such follow-ups as may be necessary.
Valid CDL B.
Should be mechanically inclined and capable of performing strenuous work;
Applicant will be required to demonstrate the mental ability and aptitude to become a Gas Mechanic.
Must pass physical abilities examination.
Must pass validated aptitude test
NOTE: Employees who demonstrate their aptitude for this work and establish a satisfactory record during two years of employment in this position will be promoted to a Gas Mechanic C. A satisfactory record must include the successful completion of Gas Mechanic C school, plastic fusion and acetylene welding certification as required.
