This position will cover the South Region, TVA’s service territory in North Alabama. This role will require frequent travel and the ability to be in person at customer sites.

Position Purpose

Manages enterprise-wide projects. Conducts high-level analyses via extensive market research, data analysis, and technical acumen for TVA’s Commercial Energy Solutions (CES) programs and technologies to meet power supply, local power company, and end use consumer needs consistent with TVA’s operational, planning and marketing objectives. Designs, develops, and maintains strategic-level technology solutions, budgets, econometric models, analyses and tools to trend, measure, interpret, improve, and communicate CES program efforts are consistent with industry standards and provide decision support and develop supplemental documentation to senior management across multiple SBUs. Develops corrective actions and policy/procedure changes. Communicates/negotiates frequently with TVA-wide representatives from External Relations, Financial Services, Operations, and externally with local power companies (LPCs), directly served customers, TVPPA, TVIC, stakeholders, contractors, and consultants to gain support and understanding of CES offerings and direction. Exercises extensive budget authority and manages projects of highest complexity.

Supervisory Responsibility

Provides technical supervision of department intern(s) and Specialist levels I,II; coordinates and manages the work of 5 or more managed-task contractors; leads matrixed teams of internal SMEs and external partners, customers and providers.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Initiate ES&P/CES program design and development when practical.

  • Analyze CES product and service performance data to determine program impacts, costs and value model for TVA, LPCs and other end users.

  • Track and analyze impact assessments for ES&P programs to ensure and clearly recommend sound business decisions.

  • Design, develop, and use advanced models and other tools to form the basis to evaluate ES&P products/programs to meet industry standards and achieve financial, marketing and program goals. Demonstrate ownership of results by providing ongoing feedback, recommend and implement operational changes to improve performance and benchmark metrics.

  • Actively manages multi-discipline teams including internal and external resources to define and achieve project performance goals, schedule and budget performance for technology related projects.

  • Lead/manage multifunctional teams to provide ongoing feedback on the performance of ES&P/CES products and programs; determine actions to correct deficiencies and improve performance.

  • Design, develop, and deliver presentations to internal TVA program staffs, LPCs and related industry groups as appropriate.

  • Manage and optimize vendor contracts for market research services, data acquisition, and EM&V efforts.

  • Recommend policy and strategy related to ES&P Demand Management & Support efforts.

  • Represent TVA as an ambassador on industry market and program evaluation committees to ensure TVA’s consistency with utility standards.

  • Represent senior managers on project and management teams to resolve key business issues.

  • Identify, lead development, and implement analysis tools, software and techniques to assess ES&P/CES programs and better align performance estimates to industry standard practices and internal TVA methodologies. Ensure results are clearly communicated to appropriate audiences.

  • Resolve complex problems and serve as coaching and development resource for Specialists I and II.

  • Use best practices and knowledge of industry issues to improve CES portfolio options.

  • Perform financial analyses of department/SBU budgets & expenditures to ensure adherence to TVA policies.

  • Interfaces with external customers, news media, attorneys, and elected officials over issues that are potentially sensitive in nature requiring communication in a tactful and sensitive manner.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Education— Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, business, economics, marketing, or related technical discipline, or equivalent education and experience. An advanced degree may be desired.

    Experience— At least 5 years of applied problem solving and evaluation experience in economics, engineering, mathematics or related discipline. Five years of experience in distributed energy resources desired. Must have demonstrated skills in problem solving, strong communication and written skills, possess strong business judgment skills, and influencing and persuading skills.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities—Must have extensive understanding of the electric utility industry, TVA, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and/or electrification technologies and their applications; working knowledge of power system operations; strong ability to conduct financial and statistical derivatives. Must be proficient in the use of duty related PC software.financial tools. Must have strong analytical, conceptual, design, and problem solving capabilities. Must be able to perform effectively as part of a team and have strong interpersonal skills. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/ access requirements and essential job functions.
