This position consists of skilled workers who possess the required knowledge, skill, and physical ability to perform construction and maintenance work in the gas distribution, underground utilities, and gas service lines, as well as working with daily contacts with the public. Performs duties as directed by foreman while operating any or all the following equipment: backhoe, excavator, vibratory or static plows, trenchers or directional bore machines in the installation, removal or maintenance of underground utilities and pipe installation. Essential Functions: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: • Execute job deliverables according to customer specifications and contract requirements. • Ensure all project work is compliant with installation standards and is being performed safely and correctly. • Promote and monitor the safety of team members. • Prepare sites to ensure maximum optimization of construction work procedures. • Operate heavy equipment to complete tasks. • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor. • Monitor fluids, filters and gauges on the equipment and maintain proper levels of all fluids, clean filters. Daily greasing of equipment. •Load and unload equipment and materials from trucks for daily projects; restock trucks with supplies ensuring crews have the proper tools and supplies to complete the job; distribute materials at the job site in a safe and efficient manner. • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job and operate within a short time frame as needed. • Place, remove or maintain underground utilities as directed. This includes but is not limited to: carrying pipe, bags of material and other heavy items, jack hammering, shoveling, tamping and installing pipe, duct or cable. • Participate in manual labor tasks as required on project. • Secure work site, equipment, and materials at the end of each shift to ensure public safety and safety of equipment and materials. • Ensure that all work being done is in compliance with the company’s safety protocols. • Understands when to wear personnel protective equipment. • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the Foreman or Supervisor. Qualifications/Special Knowledge Skills: • Must be efficient at operating heavy equipment (excavators, loaders, etc.) ** MUST have a minimum of 3 years' experience operating mutiple pieces of equipment. • Strong knowledge regarding the operations, safety, and maintenance of equipment being used. • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, safety, and quality standards, and effectively utilize all tools and equipment relevant to the work. • Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment. • Precise hand-eye coordination•Display a willing attitude to learn from others. • Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. • Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours. • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently. • Able to bend, squat, stand and twist in awkward positions for extended periods. • Ability to travel to project sites that are typically within a 4-hour radius of the home office. • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to extreme weather, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
