Southern Company Coordinator, Human Performance in Naperville, Illinois

JOB SUMMARY:

This position will sit in Atlanta, Georgia or Naperville, Illinois

The Human Performance Coordinator is responsible for providing support to Customer Operations, Safety and Training through conducting event analysis sessions with process stakeholders (Event Learnings), facilitating cross-functional collaborative problem solving, providing data analysis to support the business case for organizational improvements, and project managing stakeholder action to implement improvement efforts. This position possesses in-depth knowledge of Human Performance Improvement as defined by the US Department of Energy and will leverage those concepts to drive business process improvement to ensure the success of Safety, Training, Pipeline Safety Management, Operations, and Customer Experience. This role will focus on leveraging Human Performance and the Event Learning Process to achieve end-to-end business process improvements; function technically as well as analytically; and partner cross functionally at all levels of the organization to support and implement business aligned solutions and applications.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role will be responsible for the delivery of innovative solutions and business intelligence supporting strategic objectives and business operations across the Customer Operations, Safety & Training organization and includes but is not limited to:

  • Facilitation of Human Performance Event Learnings

  • Instruct courses and workshops focusing on Human Performance concepts.

  • Engage with stakeholders to drive implementation of corrective actions.

  • Support system enhancements and new projects on behalf of the business.

  • Provide analytical and business support for the development of technical solutions.

  • Ensure business processes and technology are aligned.

  • Develop solutions to complex analytical/data-driven problems and effectively document and communicate process improvements as a result of trending the data for projects

  • Champion implementation and improvement of the Human Performance Program, including implementing US Department of Energy Standards of Excellence.

  • Working closely with other Safety, PSMS and organizational leadership to analyze human performance events and then create action plans that result in improved performance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Technology, Engineering, a safety related field OR 5+ years of experience in gas or electric utility operations is preferred.

  • Previous experience as a Human Performance Coordinator or Event Learning Coordinator with a working knowledge of Human Performance initiatives or experience facilitating learning teams is strongly preferred.

  • 5+ years process improvement experience preferred.

  • 5+ years of professional demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with the ability to understand and simplify complex subjects.

  • Ability to draft complex reports and provide reporting of event analysis findings through multiple channels to effectively communicate complex issues in a concise manner.

  • Understanding of utility industry and business practices for Customer Experience, Field Operations, Resource Management, Safety Systems, or Technology preferred.

  • Demonstrated comfort level engaging with business leaders at various levels concerning their organizational goals, needs and focus areas and proposed.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously involving internal and external stakeholders. Formal project management experience or certifications is a plus.

  • Ability to effectively facilitate collaborative problem-solving efforts and navigate teams working through conflict.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate in highly cross-functional environments, engage diverse stakeholders, and translate significant information and varied points of view for opportunities for innovation that will impact customer services, safety, and operations.

  • Expert use with Excel, PowerPoint, and other presentation software; Expert use of Power BI or related data presentation and dashboard applications is a plus.

  • Comprehensive use of business-related systems (i.e. CIS, CSS, CMA, CCB, Click, or equivalent.) desirable.

  • Certification/Qualification in industry standard root cause analysis techniques including MORT, Failure Analyses, Barrier Analysis, Analytical Troubleshooting, Lean Six Sigma, or other methods is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of INPO 15-008, Achieving High Levels of Human Reliability – A Practical Approach to Human Performance and Department of Energy Human Performance Practices is preferred.

  • Expertise in organizational culture or safety culture assessment is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT regulations and PHMSA requirements a plus.
