The Electric Asset Failure Analysis team evaluates existing asset inventory and works closely with Distribution Operation and Electric Distribution Standards to improve the understanding of how and why asset failures happen, and the associated risks to our electric system. Based on the analysis we collaborate with multiple stakeholders to establish the programs to support a cost effective and reliable asset utilization of distribution equipment and assets, creating risk-based solutions including the prioritization as needed.
This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical analysis to get clear understanding of failure modes and systemic threats associated with asset failure incidents. The successful candidate will have the ability to facilitate technical discussions, extract and analyze data from multiple sources, strategically frame questions to gain information, and write clear and concise technical summary. The Sr. Engineer will actively collaborate with cross functional stakeholders including Asset Strategy, Applied Technology Services (ATS), Electric Standards, Wildfire Safety Operations Center, and Electric Incident Compliance teams to investigate asset failure incidents, develop practical recommendations, and champion implementation of the recommendations. This position requires a person who can work effectively in a dynamic work environment and can effectively prioritize multiple projects.
The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following specific areas:
Distribution Equipment Life Cycle Asset Management
Utility Pole Asset Management
Long-Term Forecasting and Planning
Reliability Analysis and improvement
Program job responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Interview first responders in the field to collect relevant asset failure data
Investigating asset failure incidents to determine apparent causes and root causes
Develop actionable corrective actions and provide continued support to implement the recommended improvements
Support development of System Risk Ranking models
General job responsibilities:
Communicate (oral and written) recommendations and findings to leaders and officers.
Work closely with business partners to train, equip and structure the organization to push the asset failure analysis methodology as a business as usual operating model.
Benchmark with peer utilities and industry organizations as needed..
Provide back-up relief for other Asset engineers.
Support and hold self and other employees accountable for implementation of the safety pledge, USP 22, the code of safe practices and the safety accountability model.

Grow the desired culture aligned with PG&E vision and values
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET)
8 years of experience in engineering and design
Knowledge and experience with building deployment plans.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a rigorous communication plan.
Demonstrated ability to regularly lead group meetings.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, in person, to large work groups.
Extensive project management and project governance processes and procedures
Proven track record with program management and strategy development
Ability to present complex data and findings to internal or external stakeholders
Advanced Degree in Engineering (Electrical) or business
