Duties

Performs Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and manufacturer required inspections and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on turbine powered rotor wing aircraft. Performs overhauls on component parts to include airframes, sheet metal, drive train components, and accessories as authorized by Federal Aviation Regulations (FARS), AC 43.13, and other Aircraft Circulars (AC’s). This work includes use of nondestructive testing procedures on metal parts. Maintenance work includes minor sheet metal work and minor painting of airframes and aircraft parts.

Flies in helicopter as needed for maintenance procedures.

Utilizes electronic vibration isolation and diagnostic system to identify and correct vibrations in the helicopter and for tracking and balancing two and four bladed rotor systems.

Modifies airframes, hydraulic and electric systems, and other systems in accordance with Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) installations.

Reviews and performs FAA and manufactures’ service bulletins, commercial engine bulletins, airworthiness alerts and directives applicable to TVA aircraft.

Makes logbook and computer entries for inspections, maintenance, and compliances’ performed. Maintains an accurate aircraft component historical log to assure compliance with time-life removal and overhaul schedules.

Posts and updates files into Electronic Data Management System (EDMS).

Travels as needed for maintenance/repairs to aircraft and in support of TVA Helicopter Services’ programs.

Travel may be ground transportation or in one of TVA’s helicopters.

If incumbent possesses an Inspector Authorization (IA), incumbent is required to sign off inspections and perform other duties that are common and customary for the holder of an IA.

Qualifications

Must have a FAA Airframe and Powerplant License and a minimum of five years experience working on helicopters of which two must be on models operated by TVA. Recency of experience must be within one year.

Must have completed a Factory Field Maintenance Course on at least one of the models operated by TVA. Also must have completed a Component Overhaul Course or have equivalent component overhaul experience.

Must have experience with and be competent in the use of electronic balancer for use in tracking and balancing blades and troubleshooting vibrations.

Must possess good computer skills.

Supervision Received

Employee is under the direct supervision of the Helicopter Mechanic Foreman who assigns work, supervises the work during progress, and checks completed work for proper performance.
