About T&D:

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview:

This position will be in the Substation Construction and Maintenance (SC&M) division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D). The successful candidate will provide direct supervision to Test Technician personnel and plan and execute daily work assignments which would include capital, Independent System Operator (ISO) compliance, and repair of electrical equipment.

The Substation Test Technician Supervisor will be responsible for interpreting, training, enforcing compliance of corporate safety policies, rules, and procedures; applying department and human resource policies and procedures in the areas of employee discipline, coaching and mentoring, staffing, and equal opportunity for bargaining unit personnel (including IBEW) under his or her supervision.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Completing bargaining unit performance evaluations and appraisals; resolving labor inquiries, disputes, and processing grievances.

  • Researching orders and receipts for materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Performing accounting and tracking functions for record keeping, reports, budgets, crew training, and timekeeping.

  • Directing and dispatching crews for routine and emergency work; record keeping and handling of hazardous materials and waste.

  • Work with relay testing procedures, substation construction test methods, Substation Operation Manual (SOM), System Operating Bulletins, APM, tools, vehicles, and materials.

  • Working on-call 24 x 7 as supervisor and duty supervisor rotation; driving to various substations or other parts of the SCE territory.

  • Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.


Minimum qualifications

  • Must possess five or more years of combined experience as a Test Supervising Technician, Test Technician, or experience related to the testing, design, evaluation, maintenance, and/or engineering of electric equipment for the power system.

  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Desired qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or a leadership role.

  • Typically possesses five or more years of experience as a Test Technician and/or a Test Supervising Technician.

  • Demonstrated experience working with relay testing procedures, substation construction test methods, Substation Operation Manual (SOM), System Operating Bulletins, Accident Prevention Manual (APM), tools, vehicles, and materials.

  • Demonstrated experience interfacing with project managers to develop programs for installing capital work.

  • Demonstrated experience working with the IBEW contract to resolve labor inquiries, disputes, and process grievances.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Capital and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) budgets.

  • Demonstrated experience using PC applications, including SAP, Lotus Notes, and Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a safety conscious work environment.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • Must be willing and able to work on-call 24 x 7 as the supervisor and duty supervisor on rotation.

  • Must be willing and able to drive to various substations or other parts of the SCE territory


  • Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties
