Xcel Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Solution Architect to join our team in downtown Minneapolis, MN. This position primarily supports the nuclear business which includes the Monticello and Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plants. We are in the process of expanding our support scope to include the Energy Supply North users which includes Power Generation sites (Coal, Gas, Wind, Hydro, Refuse, Diesel, Oil, Solar, etc.) in Xcel’s northern territory.
In conjunction with the responsibilities listed, the candidate will need to have solid database management skills/experience, interact with multiple user groups and departments daily, and will be expected to resolve or help resolve any and all IT related issues as well as help push forward any initiatives or the projects business users bring to the team.
Defines and implements overarching application strategy and roadmaps. Develops non-functional and technical requirements, designs, standards and guidelines for end-to-end enterprise applications. Coordinates software configuration, integration development, and vendor technical activities. Works on multiple initiatives concurrently; identifies and implements productivity improvements; mitigates risks, resolves issues, and optimizes cost savings and efficiencies for business units.
Project Delivery – Leads design workshops, assessments, and planning sessions. Reviews and approves functional and technical designs. Leads and monitors end-to-end technical implementation, including hardware installation, environment setup, production certification, software deployment, integration development, data management, and vendor technical activities. Serves as liaison to other teams involved in project, coordinating integration work.
Architecture Framework - Translates functional requirements into technical configuration documents; assesses impact on existing applications. Architects solutions to meet functional and non-functional requirements while ensuring adherence to architecture standards. Creates and maintains architecture design artifacts. Provides technical insights on business area specific technology. Designs processes and solutions for monitoring infrastructure performance; performs capacity planning to maintain high quality of service.
Relationship Management – Collaborates with key stakeholders on IT solutions and mediates compromises. Facilitates decision process, requirements, pain points and challenges knowing relevant industry trends and gains consensus. Works closely with IT Security to ensure adherence to security standards. Peer-reviews work and provides feedback in accordance with architecture standards. Interacts with vendors to maintain existing services and to deploy new capabilities. Supports internal and external audits.
Strategy and Planning - Makes recommendations on strategic direction and roadmap for use and implementation of applications and third party integrations to drive productivity improvements, efficiencies, risk mitigation and cost savings. Provides technical leadership and architectural direction to IT peers concerning end-to-end lifecycle management of technical solutions. Manages technology footprint.
Operations Management – Diagnoses business area specific applications and counsels on systems performance, capacity, and growth. Manages various process improvement projects to increase operational efficiency. Ensures architecture diagrams currency. Keeps current with new technologies and programming languages in order to develop secure and cost effective solutions.
Bachelor's degree in science or information technology or related field or equivalent experience.
Eight years prior IT experience with emphasis on support of infrastructure systems and related technologies.
Five years of discovery, design, engineering, architecture, documentation, implementation, and infrastructure support technical solutions.
Two years of utility related experience preferred.
Ability to work independently and make timely decisions.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in full systems development life-cycle, and enterprise architecture frameworks.
Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
Oracle/SQL Server database administration with knowledge of performing backups, reloads, analyzing data, performance tuning, creation of indexes, stored procedures, etc.
Experience with the following technologies is desirable: Informatica ETL creation and support, ActiveBatch (job scheduling), SAP modules, .Net development, IBM ESB, SharePoint administration, reporting using Microsoft Reporting Services or SAP Business Objects.
Microsoft Certified SQL Server 2012/2014 and/or Oracle 11g / 12c Certified.
Candidate will need to successfully complete a nuclear security background check.
