The threat landscape evolves rapidly. Xcel Energy must remain ahead of sophisticated threat actors and security threats. Our Threat Intelligence program play a key role in protecting Xcel Energy from these types of threats.
We are looking for a leader with vision in the threat intelligence space and will continually drive improvements and growth within our Threat Intelligence function. You will focus on acquiring intelligence and analyzing the threat data for potential impact to our environments. Our Threat Intel team partners with our SOC to provide relevant and timely threat information for security investigations and threat hunting activities.

Compile cyber, geo-political and physical threat data collected through independent research and analysis.
Research, analyze and acquire new sources of threat intelligence.
Utilize relationships with various intelligence organizations to obtain and share intelligence data.
Understand and develop threat actor profiles, along with the typical indicators associated with those profiles, and be able to synthesize that data to develop innovative detection methods.
Detect patterns within large data sets that match the tactics, techniques and procedures of known threat actors, sophisticated malware, and unusual behaviors.
Advise on countermeasures and defensive techniques.
Produce high-quality written, actionable intelligence on current and developing threats
Present findings to leadership through written reports and presentations.
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Eng. or related or equiv. experience.
MS degree desired
At least 5 years cyber security related experience, or any combination of related intelligence, investigations, IT or other relevant experience demonstrating equivalency.
At least 3 years business and technical acumen experience in developing and/or working with technical security or IT compliance solutions that deliver best practices for building and monitoring controls for information protection and threat management.
In-depth knowledge of IT systems and applications
Superior communication skills
Proven experience recommending innovative risk management or compliance solutions to support complex business requirements.
Superior relationship management, facilitation, project management, and problem solving skills Strong ability to coach and mentor
Relevant Information Security certifications and training desired.
Experience with Splunk ES and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) tools.
Knowledge and experience with Threat Intelligence platforms (TIP).
Prior exposure to threat hunting utilizing TTPs (Tactics, Techniques and Procedures)
Basic understanding of the MITRE ATT&CK framework
Knowledge of STIX/TAXII
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
Strong communication skills (oral and written).
Self-managed and team oriented.
Deadline and detail oriented.
