Job Summary

You will have the ability to perform Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) designassignments of proposed engineering and operations related projects, tracks and maintains the records related to those assignments.

Essential Functions

  • Performs intermediate level assignments in support of distribution operations, such as construction projects, permit applications, etc.

  • Utilize intermediate level CAD and ArcMap skills to support gas operations.

  • Assists with QA/QC process to ensure CAD and/or GIS production standards are maintained in the development and production of construction plans and specifications.

  • Enters as-built, survey data, field notes, plats, legal descriptions, address information, etc. in continuous effort to keep GIS database current

  • Creates and runs queries of GIS data to provide easier access and retrieval of CNP infrastructure information from GIS database to support statistical analysis and creation of accurate maps, plans, and engineering schematic designs.

  • Performs gas attribute and geometric network editing as required

  • Reviews existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality or completeness of documentation. Identify data quality and integration problems association with geospatial and attribute data.

  • Recommends improvements in process and methods used to generate CAD and/or GIS documentation.

  • Interprets construction designs and drawings of both existing and proposed gas distribution facilities.

  • Collects information and compiles data to quantify gas facilities within newly annexed or de-annexed geographic areas, including metes and bounds interpretations.

  • Reviews and updates engineering company plans detailing facility locations.

  • Analyzes and interprets spatial data to ensure system integrity.

  • Assists customers and employees with basic facility information inquiries.

  • Designs and produces special graphic presentation maps.

  • Research company archive files for project or archived data.

  • Trains less experienced staff to perform duties listed above.

  • Carries out general office functions in the support of the engineering department.

  • Performs additional duties as apparent or as assigned.

Education Description

  • Requires a Vo-Tech/CAD/GIS/Drafting certificate or 60 credit hours in a related field from an accredited college or university. In lieu of education, equivalent level of experience with a 2:1 experience to education ratio.

Experience

  • 4 Years CAD/GIS experience with an understanding of design methods for construction drawings, diagrams, and maps through the use of computer software.

  • Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of mechanical drawing or drafting principles and techniques.

  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of computer applications, troubleshooting procedures and techniques

  • Able to understand basic GIS principles and applications.

  • Able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of land-base and survey methods, techniques, terminology and drafting conventions.

  • Able to acquire and demonstrate knowledge of electric or gas engineering equipment and design

  • Able to interpret electric or gas drawings, symbolism and related technical information.

  • Able to use advanced functions of personal computers, digitizers, plotters and other drafting and/or office equipment.

  • Able to learn and use computer programs and PC software proficiently, including SAP modules, WOTS, GTrak, e-mail, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet programs. Able to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, with both technical and non-technical employees and/or customers.
