Job Summary

Dominion Energy is seeking a System Protection and Electrical Equipment Technician intern. The intern roles will be located at the North Anna Power Station in Mineral, VA.

The System Protection and Electrical Equipment intern position will ride along with and assist System Protection and Field Electrical Equipment Techs with daily routine tasks. This will provide the intern with exposure to an understanding of the electric utility Transmission & Distribution network and substation electrical equipment, High Voltage diagnostic testing, other non-invasive testing like infrared thermography, protective relay, and basic trouble shooting of control circuits. Network with System Protection, Electrical Equipment technicians and substation personnel to develop a basic understanding of substation equipment. Begin to have a understanding of voltage classes used on Dominion Energy system and ground planes so as to understand minimum approach distances with the eventual goal of becoming a qualified electrical worker.

Assist technicians with basic tests:

• Collecting oil samples for dissolved gas analysis and other screen tests

• Infrared scans

• Basic instrument check out and repair

• Basic HV diagnostic testing

• Relay testing

• Functional testing

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Strongly prefer candidates with good problem solving skills while working with mechanical and/or electrical equipment and control circuits

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

  • Math and technical/mechanical aptitude required

  • Must be able to follow instructions and be a team player

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction of 290 pounds applies

  • Time management and organization skills

  • Maintain training and qualifications to hold a Nuclear Unescorted Access Authorization (UAA) badge

Education Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at a university/community college pursuing an Bachelors or Associate's degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, Electric Utility Substation & Relay Technology, or other relevant technology/technician degrees

  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

  • Must have an anticipated graduation date of spring 2025 or later
