Position Specific Description

The Apprentice Mechanic-Garage under supervision is responsible for the maintenance and repair of medium and heavy-duty utility fleet vehicles and equipment. This position interacts with internal customers and external vendors to provide safe and reliable vehicles/equipment.Candidate must maintain regular attendance and comply with all safety procedures, practices, and requirements. Candidate must be able to effectively communicate including verbally and via radio, phone, or email.Employees in this job follow processes and procedures to achieve desired results while utilizing interdependence/collaboration with work group to achieve maximum production output.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Under general supervision:

  • Communicates and demonstrates safe working practices

  • Performs maintenance and repairs to vehicles and equipment

  • Communicates with customers on vehicle and equipment status

  • Performsallother job-related duties as assigned

  • Competent with computer applications and software diagnostics

  • Solve basic electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic related defects

  • Must maintain weight below 280 pounds to comply with equipment manufacturer's restrictions

  • Must live within a reasonable call-out distance for timely response to call outs

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Under general supervision:

  • Communicates and demonstrates safe working practices

  • Performs maintenance and repairs to vehicles and equipment

  • Communicates with customers on vehicle and equipment status

  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned

  • Competent with computer applications and software diagnostics

  • Solve basic electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic related defects

  • Must maintain weight below 280 pounds to comply with equipment manufacturer's restrictions

  • Must live within a reasonable call-out distance for timely response to call outs

  • May be required to work extended hours and travel throughout the system in cases of emergencies and storms

  • Typical standard work shifts are Monday through Friday however shift work is possible and a requirement of the position

Required Qualification

  • High School Grad / GED

  • Successful results on the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test

  • 2+ years’ maintenance experience in one or more of the following areas: Medium/Heavy duty truck, heavy construction equipment, wheeled vehicle mechanic MOS 91B, mobile hydraulics

  • 3 current Automotive Service Excellence “ASE” Certifications one will be T4 brakes or completion of a technical program in related studies (certificate or A.S. degree)

  • Valid Driver’s License (NON CDL)

  • Valid Class A CDL with tanker “N” endorsement or will attain within 6 months of employment

Preferred Qualification

  • ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Certification

  • ASE Master Truck Equipment Certification

  • Fluid Power Society Certification

  • Mobile crane inspector certification

  • Automotive air conditioning certification
