NiSource Real Estate Contracts Manager in Merrillville, Indiana

Job Summary

The Real Estate Contracts Manager oversees and manages all aspects of real estate contracts for NiSource operations. The Manager ensures seamless contract negotiation, execution, compliance, and administration, while supporting property acquisition, lease agreements, and divestments. This role requires strong knowledge of real estate principles, utility industry practices, and applicable legal frameworks.

Essential Functions

  • Drafts, reviews, and negotiates real estate contracts, including property leases, easements, purchase agreements, rights-of-way, and land use agreements.

  • Manages and maintains a comprehensive database of all real estate contracts and related documentation.

  • Provides guidance on contract terms and conditions, identifying risks and offering solutions to minimize exposure.

  • Monitors and tracks contract performance, deadlines, and renewals to ensure timely actions and updates.

  • Collaborates with legal, finance, and operations teams to ensure contracts align with company policies and business objectives.

  • Conducts due diligence for property acquisitions and ensures regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

  • Builds and maintains relationships with landowners, developers, government agencies, and external stakeholders.

  • Assists in resolving disputes or issues related to real estate contracts, working closely with internal and external parties.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Law, or a related field.

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in real estate contracts management, preferably within the utility or energy sector.

  • Meticulously detail-oriented and organized. High

  • Strong understanding of real estate laws, regulations, and industry standards. High

  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills. High

  • Proficient in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite. High

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. High

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. High

  • Knowledge of utility-specific real estate practices, such as rights-of-way and eminent domain. Low

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Familiarity with a regulated business environment, such as Utilities

  • Licensed Real Estate Agent Upon Hire

  • Certified Paralegal Upon Hire

  • JD with an emphasis in contract law

Salary Range*:

$110,200.00 - $165,300.00

*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience , as well as internal pay equity .
