The Learning, Development and Technology Technical training team influences every corner of Consumers Energy. The Role

As a Senior Technical Instructor, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of a CDL Courses along with the potential for other technical training. You will provide in person, virtual, eLearning and specialty instruction to coworkers. Ideal candidates should consider themselves knowledgeable of the Commercial Driving requirements, understand the daily activities of our Electric OM&C coworkers and experience in facilitation. The individual in this position will participate as a SME in the learning community and will increase consistency in Consumers Energy training practices and increase the effectiveness of the learning function. The Instructor will proactively execute training events within Consumers Energy that reflect and balance the priorities and resources of the company.

Experience Instructor must:

  • Passionate about their craft, inspired by the art of the possible, optimistic about the unknown, fearless of aspirational ideas and bold innovation, and obsessive over the coworker experience.

  • Deliver highly technical training to Electric Operations coworkers. Conduct training in accordance with Energy standards and procedures.

  • Passionate contributors to continuous improvement to update and manage training curriculums as needed in accordance with Instructional Design standards.

  • Partner with Temporary Union Instructors to certify them to assist in facilitating training.

  • Creative collaborators with business partners to ensure that training is impacting operational performance in a positive way. Act as SME as needed.

  • Responsible for waste elimination and increase efficiencies in training and problem solving in order to reduce human struggle.

  • Qualify as a registered CDL Instructor as required by FMCSA and the State of Michigan.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must meet one of these:

  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience operating a CMV requiring a CDL A or

  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience as a BTW CMV instructor.

Preferred Skills:

  • Instructor experience or high-level presentation skills; working in an operations setting to understand the complexities of the environment; knowledge of adult learning theory principles; instructional design

  • Previous experience instructing CDL

  • Able to review data and help groups determine training solutions that will result in behavior changes
