Job Purpose

To be responsible for the daily supervision and organization of assigned field staff to effectively, efficiently and safely accomplish job tasks in line with departmental and National Grid requirements.

Key Accountabilities

· The primary responsibility is training of new welders from entry level through complete qualifications according to company policy and union contracts.

· Provide continued training to all current company welders in all aspects of welding and weld preparation. Ensure that all welding policies and procedures are being followed by both National Grid and contractor welders. Communicate any updates and changes to welding related policies and procedures.

· Work with Learning and Development to qualify National Grid and contractor welders. Responsible for ensuring compliance of 6-month requalification’s and annual spot checks.

· Represent NE on the US enterprise-wide welding committee and communicate any and all updates or changes. Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

· Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

· Knowledge of SMAW(Carbon), GMAW (Carbon) and GTAW(Carbon, Stainless and Aluminum) processes. Ability to qualify in each process and maintain qualifications.

· Knowledge of welding on in-service gas pipelines

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Strong leadership, influencing, customer orientation and communication skills, providing the ability to promote team working and harmonious working between site staff, project teams and contractors.

Qualifications

· CWI (Certified Welding Inspector with API 1104 endorsement) required.

· CWE (Certified Welding Educator) preferred.

· API 1169 preferred

· Subject Matter Expert API 1104 with extensive welding experience qualifying and training welders

· Supervisory experience in managing and leading a union work force

· Must have demonstrated skills to build effective, respectful working relationships across different union locals in New England

· Technical knowledge of distribution system, engineering, construction and maintenance process. Knowledge of federal, state and municipal codes.

· Applicant must exhibit proven supervisory skills and ability to work effectively with others in a team environment is necessary. The candidate must possess an exceptional safety record, strong oral and written communication skills with the proven ability to maximize performance of subordinates. Solid planning and organizing skills are required. Must possess the following competencies: Focus on Safety, Customer Satisfaction, advancing technology to protect our environment, innovation, drive for results, adaptability, demonstrate and promote teamwork.

$115k - $135k a year
