POSITION PURPOSE

The Supervisor Gas Operations will manage the logistics and coordination of activities at numerous sites throughout Madison Gas and Electric Company's service territory, ensuring an effective movement of equipment, materials, and personnel to and from field locations. The Supervisor will train, hire, and supervise field staff; consult with contractors, municipalities, and property owners to assure smooth field operations; purchase field equipment, vehicles, and other services; and manage the maintenance of field equipment, vehicles, and suppliers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicates the local action plan; explains how this relates to the Gas Construction Operations department's strategy and action plan and the broader organization's mission and vision; and motivates people to achieve local business goals.

  • Supervises others working within established operational systems.

  • Delivers required outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with contract service providers while working within an established contract management plan.

  • Monitors the performance of the team, allocates work and reviews completion, takes appropriate corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality, and contributes to formal individual performance management and appraisal.

  • Tracks budgets and reports variances.

  • Assigns short-term work schedules to a team to achieve expectations while following established timelines.

  • Assigns and coordinates compliance-related inspections and repairs to ensure DOT-related tasks are efficiently and effectively completed at required intervals.

  • Follows the organization's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, standards, and requirements; identifies and mitigates environmental risks and risks to the well-being of oneself and others in the workplace; instructs the team in safe working methods; and identifies instances of risky behaviors within the team, takes appropriate action, and escalates serious issues as appropriate.

  • Delivers small project workstreams, conducting specified project activities within defined time and quality parameters and ensuring adherence to the prescribed project management methodology.

  • Provides coaching to team members to develop their skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree from an accredited college, university, or other vocational institution preferred.

  • Minimum five years of experience in natural gas distribution industry.

  • Minimum three years of managerial or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Able to provide technical guidance in the following areas:o Developing, monitoring, interpreting, and understanding policies and procedures, while ensuring they match organizational strategies and objectiveso Costing, budgeting, and financial taskso Managing projects and/or programs within desired cost, time, and quality parameters

  • Adaptable to changing tools and technologies to meet the objectives and goals of the organization.

  • Applies understanding of the business environment and objectives to develop solutions without supervision, while also providing technical assistance when necessary.

  • Manages and applies safety systems and processes.

  • Uses clear and effective verbal communication skills without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on expressing ideas, requesting actions, and formulating plans or policies.

  • Works with full competence to orient work in a workflow to plan, organize, and execute the steps it takes to achieve a goal and higher efficiencies.

  • Works with guidance (but not constant supervision) to review and create relevant and effective reports.
