We are currently looking for a Senior Resource Planning Consultant to join our Resource Planning team. The Resource Planning team is responsible for economic analysis and strategy with a focus on integrating new resources to ensure a cost effective, reliable plan for the clean energy grid of the future. The team advises our development team, company leadership, and external stakeholders on optimal resource planning decisions by developing better tools, processes, and modeling approaches through learning and knowledge sharing.

Where you will work:
Candidates located in Wisconsin or Iowa will work on a Hybrid basis, offering the flexibility to work from home while also spending time at one of our locations to interact with team members in-person. Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates looking to move to the Cedar Rapids or Madison areas to work on a hybrid basis.
Candidates located in Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Nebraska will work on a Remote basis. Limited travel to an office in Wisconsin or Iowa for meetings will be required. Candidates located outside of these states who are not willing to relocate to Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA will not be considered.
What you will do:
Perform Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) style generation planning and capacity expansion modeling, using AuroraXMP (or similar) production cost software
Research MISO Resource Adequacy obligations, regulatory IRP requirements, and peer IRP reports and filings from multiple entities to build a benchmark system model
Analyze data, draws inferences and presents results in a clear and understandable format to management and external stakeholders
Develop presentation materials that communicate clearly the analyses performed and conveys insights that help Alliant Energy better serve its utility customers
Assist in developing business case and alternatives analysis with cost-benefit and risk evaluation for future projects
Support multiple ad hoc projects inclusive of those above, completing them in a timely manner
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in engineering, economics, or utility finance is preferred
Required Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the energy industry with integrated resource planning, resource adequacy, economic analysis experience, forecasting, economic analysis, and asset management experience
Strong understanding of the economics underlying electric power generation and a working knowledge of related technical issues
Previous experience in Integrated Resource Planning or a strong background in power sector modeling, resource cost-benefit analysis, or related complex system modeling
Experience with AuroraXMP or similar production cost models (PLEXOS, PROMOD, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to critically think, challenge assumptions and prioritize responsibilities
Strong data management, analysis, and presentation skills (Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience in evaluating complex technical and financial issues independently, developing recommendations, action plans, and managing multiple complex assignments simultaneously
Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to work in a diverse work environment
