Alliant Energy has a new opportunity for a Forecast Analyst II (Fuel Forecasting) to join us in Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA! In this role, you will work on forecasting and analyzing utility fuel costs related to the company’s electricity generating units and buying and selling electricity in the MISO wholesale power market.
You will prepare a variety of economic and financial analysis and modeling and use and maintain niche generation dispatch and energy market models and systems. You will capture, clean and evaluate data for use in fuel forecasting and analysis and help develop and prepare rate review filing documents and business planning and support analyses. You will also work strategically with internal and external customers including utility regulators and model and system vendors to achieve business goals and address opportunities and challenges. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with other work teams are a must.
This position currently offers a blend of working from home and in the Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA office. The individual can reside in either Iowa or Wisconsin.
Job Responsibilities
Captures and cleans data used in modeling and developing, maintaining, and modifying statistically driven models to generate short, medium, and long-term forecasts or analysis for customers.
Participates in intermediate level analysis of data/trends including comparing forecast to actual results.
Communicates (verbally and written) forecasting-related concepts and results to our partners in a concise and simplified manner. Actively listens to alternative ideas and views.
Participates in business planning and support analysis including economic scenario analysis, performance benchmarking, opportunity and risk assessment and research projects with direction from a senior/lead.
Proactively works with customers to provide strategic consulting to help achieve business goals.
Develops and prepares testimony, exhibits, and responses to data requests to support rate reviews and regulatory proceedings.
Keeps informed of company rates and costs, business rules and policy changes as well as significant national and regional developments with energy and economic-related forecasting implications.
Seeks opportunities for different and innovative ways to address issues or problems. Optimally supports and adapts to change in the workplace.
Required Qualifications
3 years technical and/or professional experience that includes:
Forecasting or economic analysis
Manipulating and maintaining large or diverse sets of data
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters Degree in economics, statistics, business, engineering, mathematics, or related area
Knowledge of the business and economic dynamics within the energy industry.
Knowledge of organized wholesale electricity markets (e.g., MISO, PJM)
Knowledge of common software used to support forecasting and analysis functions (e.g., Excel, Power BI)
Knowledge of energy industry modeling applications including production cost/generation dispatch models and utility resource planning systems
