POSITION PURPOSE

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Financial Analyst with a focus in budgeting to join our accounting and finance team at Madison Gas and Electric. As a Financial Analyst - Budgeting, you will be responsible for developing and managing the annual budget, analyzing financial data, and providing recommendations to support effective budget planning and decision-making. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and play a key role in optimizing financial performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, monitor, and manage the annual budget for different departments within the company (Budgeting, Treasury, Regulatory, and Investor Relations).

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to track budget performance, identify variances, and propose corrective actions as necessary.

  • Collaborate with department leads and personnel to gather relevant financial data, review expenditure requests, and provide recommendations to align with the budgetary goals.

  • Prepare accurate financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, highlighting the key findings and trends.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts, including revenue projections and expense budgets.

  • Conduct cost analysis to identify potential savings opportunities and cost-effective strategies.

  • Evaluate financial performance by comparing actual results with budgeted figures and provide insights to the management team.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to budgeting and financial management.

  • Performs analysis on key financial statement accounts.

  • Assists with system administration and maintenance tasks associated with Oracle EPM (Budgeting System) and data integration tasks with the financial model.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Any certifications are a plus.

  • 2+ years’ experience as a Budgeting Analyst, Financial Analyst, or similar role in the utility industry is highly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work well as part of a team and possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong proficiency in accounting, financial analysis, budget development, and forecasting.

  • Advanced knowledge of financial modeling, budgeting software (Oracle EPM), and MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information effectively.
