General Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Safety and working closely with the Fleet Manager, Electric Power Division, and Mechanical Division Safety leadership, the Driving Safety Technology Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring driving safety behaviors and regulatory compliance through the monitoring of dash cam videos. This position focuses on promoting safe driving practices and DOT compliance, as well as providing guidance and follow-up on corrective actions to employees. The Driving Safety Technology Coordinator is responsible for the administrative operation of programs and processes supporting Dash Cam safety systems and works to optimize the operational effectiveness of all Dash Cam technologies, conducting analytics and reporting of Driver Safety Key Performance Indicators across Hooper's Divisions.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Program Development and Compliance:

  • Participate in the development, design, and implementation of the dash cam program process, maintaining policy and ensuring compliance.

  • Video Review and Coaching:

  • Review fleet dash cam video to identify issues related to safe driving techniques, with a focus on safety event identification for escalation.

  • Coach Hooper employees and drivers in person and remotely on traffic safety and driver performance improvement.

  • Maintain DOT Driver Qualification (DQ) Files and provide coaching for driving safety performance improvement.

  • Communicate with drivers, staff, and vendors through various channels (text, web, phone, and in person).

  • Safety Event Reporting:

  • Alert Safety Leaders, Fleet Manager, and relevant Operations Leaders when a driver experiences a specific and significant safety event that requires escalation.

  • Device Management:

  • Facilitate and coordinate, as directed by the Fleet Manager, the identification and repair of defective dash cam devices.

  • Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Collect, maintain, track, and report data to management.

  • Analyze program data to assess program quality, effectiveness, sustainability, and camera operational performance.

  • Prepare periodic reports on program effectiveness, processes, and quality.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Handle other assigned responsibilities, which may include fleet and safety-related program management, such as MVR and DOT Compliance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • 1-3 or more years of experience in dash cam monitoring, compliance, and safety within the construction, utility, or transportation industries is preferred.

  • Experience in maintaining and administering DOT Driver Qualification files is a plus.

  • Clear understanding of OSHA and DOT regulations.

  • Proficiency in Safety databases, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, Video Conferencing, etc.

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively in a team.

  • Customer-service oriented, with critical thinking skills and the ability to understand potential safety issues.

  • Understanding of safety issues and the functioning of a safety team.

  • Experience working in a construction field safety environment is advantageous.

Education:

  • An Occupational Safety & Health Degree is preferred.
