Direct and manage the Generation and Transmission Planning (GTP) functions of the Company to:
Forecast future electric and gas energy needs.
Analyze future electric energy supply needs and determine electric resource portfolio to meet those needs consistent with corporate objectives.
Review and assess expected future performance and adequacy of the transmission system in meeting the Company's resource and load-serving needs.
Promote the Company's interests related to adequate and economic future energy supply and transmission capability.
Provide and maintain systems and applications needed to participate in regional organized energy markets and economically and reliably operate the Company's energy production assets, electric system, and gas delivery system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs and manages GTP staff to evaluate the efficacy of proposed and planned electric transmission system improvements in meeting the Company's energy supply needs and objectives.
Understands and provides direction for Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) Market Participant System and related ancillary systems required to operate the Company's electric power system, gas delivery system, and energy production assets; manages electric energy supply and delivery to maximize economic value; operates as a member of the MISO system; and fully participates in the MISO wholesale electric energy market.
Participates in ongoing corporate energy supply strategy review and development providing analysis, advice, and information to support informed strategic decision making.
Promotes the Company's interests related to adequate and economic future energy supply and transmission capability by monitoring pertinent activities of and advocating Company interests to MISO, American Transmission Company (ATC), Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), peer energy suppliers, and other entities relevant to the position's responsibilities.
Communicates and collaborates with other areas of the Company as needed to carry out the position's responsibilities to enable other areas to execute their responsibilities.
Selects, places, appraises, trains, and develops staff to ensure competent performance of assigned accountabilities.
Encourages employees reporting to the position to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other employees in the Company and department to achieve work goals, improve processes, and seek integrative solutions to business problems.
Provides for the acquisition and maintenance of analytical tools needed by the staff within the position's purview to successfully carry out their responsibilities.
Promotes compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) planning and operating reliability standards that apply to activities within the position's purview.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Examples include:
Responds to ad hoc information requests.
Participates on committees, task forces, and work groups relevant to the position or knowledge of the position holder.
Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of business recovery plans associated with the systems and functions within the position's scope of responsibilities.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with power systems emphasis or similar technical education or experience required.
Master's degree in business administration or equivalent experience required.
Minimum of ten years of experience performing or coordinating electric power system planning and/or electric resource planning.
Minimum of ten years of experience deploying, supporting, and/or managing the support of modeling systems such as EGEAS and PROMOD, generation control, power production economic analysis, energy accounting, gas distribution monitoring, data archiving and reporting, and radio and telephonic data communication used in electric and gas utility control centers to operate electric power and gas distribution systems.
Minimum of 15 years of experience supervising engineering or other technical/analytical staff.
Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrated ability to successfully manage major projects crossing departmental and corporate boundaries.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and successfully complete tasks independently and in cooperation with others, often with restrictive time and resource constraints.
Thorough understanding of the operation of the Company's electric and gas systems and the systems to which they are interconnected.
Thorough understanding of the MISO electric energy market based on Locational Marginal Pricing.
Thorough understanding of electrical power system design and operation.
Good understanding of the capabilities, costs, and limitations of technology applied to power systems, power system operation, and business processes.
Good understanding of the role and authority of MISO, ATC, PSCW, FERC, NERC, and Midwest Reliability Organization and the Company's responsibilities and obligations to those entities as they relate to the planning and operation of the electric power system.
Strong analytical, problem-identification, and problem-solving skills.
Good understanding of the regulatory approval process for major electric power projects.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good understanding of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and batteries.
