3644BRJob Responsibilities:

  • Provides legal support services on routine matters. Legal matters are characterized by facts that are well-established and clearly applicable legal precedents. Draws up contracts or other legal documents for review by others. Guidance may be provided in the initial stages of an assignment. Assignments are carried out with moderate independence. Decisions having an important bearing on the organization are reviewed. Serves as a point of contact for internal clients related to legal issues.

  • Works with business units and with various staff departments to facilitate compliance with federal and state regulations. Remains abreast of proposed legislation within area of responsibility which might affect the organization. Assists in providing analysis and responses to legislative developments, public and industry inquiries. Assists in providing training and guidance on compliance and emerging legal issues.

  • Assists internal litigation counsel in reviewing and supervises litigation in appropriate circumstances to minimize the exposure. Assists in establishing and implementing procedures for recording and monitoring litigation. Coordinates with retained counsel to ensure adequate representation and achievement of corporate policies and objectives for moderately complex legal matters. Assists internal and outside counsel in preparing the Company’s position.

  • Applying a broad knowledge of legal principles, practices and procedures, leads the successful completion of specific routine interdepartmental legal projects. Breaks down problems into simple components in order to identify required tasks or activities. Assists other attorneys on a wide variety of legal projects. Monitors legal developments that may affect a project and recommends the appropriate course of action. Responsible for the risk assessment of the project. Evaluates the scope and resources used for the project and works with more experienced attorneys in identifying external resources as needed. May work with more experienced attorneys to resolve issues pertaining to the project.

  • Interacts with, and oversees the functional work assigned to, paralegals and/or legal interns. Serves as a subject matter expert in at least one area of law. Provides technical guidance to business units. Continues to expand fundamental knowledge in own discipline and broaden skills and knowledge about industry and Company.

  • Actively participates as part of the legal services team. Identifies own information that may be useful to others and shares it promptly. Recognizes the limitations of own knowledge and request input from others. Enhances processes or products. Questions the way things are done currently, looks for ways to improve own efficiency.

  • Gives feedback to encourage and reassures others after a setback. Gives feedback in behavioral rather than personal terms. Reaches agreement on expectations for future performance. Alliant Energy has an exciting an Attorney for our Legal Department. This position may be filled at the Attorney or Senior Attorney level dependent upon candidate qualifications. This challenging role provides opportunities to enhance your legal experience and gain an understanding of Alliant Energy’s operations while provide legal support for initiatives throughout the company.   • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, college, or university and two years of related experience after receiving degree

  • Licensed attorney

  • Attorney position requires two years of experience following obtaining the JD degree

  • Senior Attorney position requires 5 years of related experience in a wide range of legal issues.

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of the utility industry, including renewables

  • Knowledge of regulatory oversight

  • Experience with commercial negotiations and contract drafting

Required Skills:

  • Ability to solve problems of moderate scope and complexity usually involving limited responsibility.

  • Demonstrates excellent legal research skills.

  • Proven ability to plan and carry out responsibility with minimum direction.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
