Framatome Fuel Rod Design Engineer in Lynchburg, Virginia

Primary responsibilities include:

Responsible for fuel rod and control component design, materials development, manufacturing support, and fuel performance code development. Coordinate with other fuel engineering departments both locally and worldwide. Design and analyze Framatome fuel rods and control rods as well as develop codes and methods for nuclear applications. Perform thermal and mechanical analyses to support the safe irradiation of existing and advanced fuel designs by use of engineering computer codes. Employ both empirical and first principal methods. Maintain existing fuel rod analysis codes and develop automation software to streamline the analyses. Participate in and support interfaces with customer and regulatory authorities to obtain regulatory approval of the Framatome reactor core design, codes, and methods. Prepare and review design specifications, calculation files, test requirements and associated reports.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:

Master's degree in Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Experience or education must include:

  1. Computational Fluid Dynamics;

  2. Understanding of mechanical and thermal analysis techniques;

  3. Python, MATLAB, and C;

  4. Numerical Analysis;

  5. Data analysis/parsing;

  6. Mathematical concepts (calculus, differential equations, statistics); and

  7. Navigation of UNIX systems.

    The range of base salary for the position is between $69,035 – $76,603/year , and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
